Looks at his stats.
2005, for Florida, he pitched 209 inn for a 3.44 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP.
2006, for Toronto he picthed 135.2 inn for a 3.98 ERA and 1.30 WHIP
2007,165.2 IP for 3.75 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, his standout season.
2008, 221.1 IP for 4.07 ERA and 1.34 WHIP.
2009, his first year in the Bronx, 207 IP for a 4.04 ERA and 1.40 WHIP
Last year, the year of suck, a 5.26 ERA and 1.51 WHIP.
This year? 4.54 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.

Basically, the guy had one above average season (2007) and one awful one (2010) Other than that, he’s a guy that will put up a 1.30 WHIP year in year out. Depending on his luck, his ERA will average between 4.00 and 4.50. Burnett is what he is: a mediocre pitcher, which is what he’s always been.

It’s not his fault the Yankees paid him as much as they did. But really, his numbers this year were pretty much what should’ve been expected all along.

He was in the process of blowing a 13 to 1 lead. Joe had to pull him with one out in the fourth, seven runs in men on second and third. Thank God Corey Wade came in to get the final two outs of the inning, or I’ll guarantee if Joe would have left AJ in there those two runners and God knows how many more would have scored. There is no place in the rotation for him, they are stuck with him and that’s that. Mop up or long relief in total blowouts. There is really no place on that team for AJ.The best bet for the Yankees is to eat a bunch of his contract and ship him off to the National league. Maybe the Nationals will take him, they are always looking for a reclamation project.
