My friend I said at the start of the season if he (Jeter) hit between .260 and .270 that would be good for him. I also thought that Nunez would be a better option down the road, but I’d like to amend that statement, Nunez (hands of stone ) is not the future SS for the Yankees, while his bat has some pop he’s a accident waiting to happen at the infield positions. The best place for Nunez is the outfield as a fourth outfielder. You have to hold your breath every time he throws the ball, not an option for an infielder. I think Jeter will get through this year and possibly next, but the Yankees should start looking at SS pretty soon.

right to just take away those 2 games – no.

i don’t remember statistics all that well but if you’re going to take away two of his best games to make the average not count outliers, then you have to take away 2 of his worst games, as outliers can be on both ends of the curve.

so his avg since returning is like .2875, i’ll let you sabermetricians calc the other stats.

with that being said, the Yankees are on a roll, theyre winning and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

Jeter can put up EXACTLY the same #s as last year and if they win a ring, this year and last year will look drastically different in people’s eyes.

However, that’s why it is called AVERAGE, because all the numbers, good and bad are there over a period of time form the players batting average…Jeter is certainly not the player he was 5 years ago, but one only needs to seen Nunez at shortstop making throws that Yao Ming standing on Tim Duncan’s shoulders couldn’t catch to realize that his value is a lot more than what his current .280 average reflects….

Gentlemen, you read way to much into my initial comment. I never said he “sucked”. What I said or at least what you should have been able to decipher from my comment was that the numbers quoted by Graig were skewed by 2 out of 24 games. And that if you take away just those 2 games Jeter is performing at the same level he did over the course of the entire season. I made no assumptions as to his performance in my comment either good or bad. It’s you gentlemen that jumped to the wrong conclusion in your replies.

Take away those 2 games and in the other 22 games his BA is .261 and I’m assuming his OPS is not much different then it was before he went on the DL. Just a thought.
