that may be the case with people who know what they are doing but not baker. remember he is the same guy who kept putting vorey patterson and willy taveras out there as leadoff man simply because they were fast. same thing he is doing with stubbs although stubbs is a much better player he is not a leadoff man.

On base ability plays in the leadoff spot. Speed plays basically anywhere in the lineup.

as long as he gets nowhere near dusty baker he should be fine.stubbs is pretty fast for the reds and look what dusty has done to him. take a guy who was not a leadoff hitter in the minors and make him one in the big leagues because he is fast.never mind that it is just one facet of his game no send him out there to strike out every at bat because you like his speed.

I just got back from the game and look, that kid was already pulling into second base when the ball hit the wall. He was getting at least three bags. I have not seen a player run like that hitting the bags that way. The kid is not a good fielder but Campagna had everyone in the park standing with their mouths open. Unbelievable.

Yes, he’s a bad defender. But, speed puts pressure on plays too, and there’s no one faster than Campana in the majors. Darren Ford (SF) is as fast, but not faster. Good for Campana, his first pro home run, having never hit one in the minors!
I’d venture to say that Campana will have various homeruns in his career, but none will ever be OUTSIDE-the-park homers.

maybe if they had a manager who actually played him everyday he might learn how to play whatever position they put him at. but in dusty land you play a game and sit for a week. not saying he would be great but his chances would be better if he was out there playing. plus there is the reason they called him up and that is his bat. and it is dusty’s fault they are in this situation,if he had played Heisey back in May when it was obvious that gomes was not the answer they might know if Heisey was the answer and not have to go thru this on the job training. but know he went with the .130 gomes no matter what Heisey did in his limited playing time,hit 3 homers against yankees?that’s nice now sit on the bench for a week. meanwhile he plays stubbs every game no matter how many times he strikes out. they won in spite of him last year because everyone had career years and they got all the breaks. this year they are not playing well enough to cover for his awful decisions and the record shows what a lousy manager he is.
