Rhodes should get a long look by the Cards. Scrabble is the only lefty. The deciding factor should be dependent on these three factors: 1) Can Sanchez return?, 2) How healthy is Boggs?, and 3) How healthy and how much is left in the tank for Rhodes?

If the answer to the first two questions is that they both can be expected to contribute favorably in the final 50 games then pass on Rhodes, assuming the Red Birds decide Rhodes is as good as past years. If only Sanchez or Boggs returns the decision is iffy, and complicated by the glut at middle infield. Punto’s health then should be added to the mix. But if Sanchez is finished for the year and Boggs, who has struggled recently, doesn’t improve, then I say pick him up. Unless somebody has another option, and Valdez and his 88 MPH fastball doesn’t do it for me.
