Translation: Padres fans, you will have to wait once every 15 years or so for the farm system to hopefully produce several top prospects at once and only then might we field a somewhat competitive “nice little team” for a few years as we become the farm system for every other team who’s ownership wants to win. At least they are announcing it to you beforehand.

Which is exaclty why Mike Adams got moved. They saw he’s the one who could get them two top picks not Bell since he would have been a two month rental that perhaps a lot of teams did not want to offer an extension since he’s made it well known he’d take the SD discount. Which I also doubt since they’ll offer a very low arb number, he’ll reject, they’ll get the two more picks and move on. As Moorad states, they’re looking to improve from within especially for everyday players since no one really wants to call Petco home as a hitter unless they overpay so only way to get them is controllable years through the draft. Under Towers this team got almost nothing draft wise so they’re taking a short term hit which hopefully will pay off ala Tampa Bay in future years.

What I meant is if they don’t offer Bell arb, they lose him for nothing. I am not sure they want that salary so I am not sure what they will do since he indicated he would accept salary arb.

No, I want a cap of 50 mil for all teams. Floors don’t distribute the talent like low caps do.

A salary cap wouldn’t help here. What you’re looking for is a salary floor, but possibly also a cap so that MLB can evenly distribute revenue so that all teams can meet the floor.

They should also try to explain why they didn’t trade Bell, he already stated he would accept arb if offered, so either get stuck with the high salary in arb or get nothing for your best reliever.

Too bad upping it 5 mill from 2011 to 2012 doesn’t even cover the raises in arbitration players will receive. Esp if Heath Bell gets in the 10-12 mill range like it has been estimated. Headley is probably due for a nice raise too and they have 10+ mill tied up in Hudson/Bartlett, see where I am going with this?

You could only field A-Rod and Jeter for that cash.

Man 50 Million, those padres fans are sure in for a treat now.

The friars need to pony up some more cash and start fielding a team so that years like 2009 happen more often.
