I find it hard to believe that the Diamondbacks don’t have a triple A player who’s better than Overbay. I find it hard to believe that any team doesn’t have one.

Just out of curiosity, how good is the Presley kid? I haven’t seen him play, just his stat line. Is he an answer?

That is very strange indeed. But the Bucs had more need in the OF than at 1B (I said this in a couple of comments here well before the deal for D-Lee was made). I was actually hoping they’d loosen Markakis also of the O’s, who would have fit perfectly into that 2011 Pirates ethos of pitching/defense/scrappy hitting. Sure, he would have cost them more than D-Lee, but they need a veteran OFer who can produce runs and play defense. RF is a gaping hole for them, more than 1B — you’ll see this more when Presley comes back to LF — they’ll finish the season fairly strong in LF (and obviously among the best in center). With Markakis they could have had a complete OF and could have schlubbed along hiding Overbay in the 7 or 8 hole (he’s an average but reasonably solid 1Bman). The problem is inexperience: the Pirates are as unused to being shoppers as they are to actually selling tickets to that fine ballpark of theirs.
