Didn't see this post before I replied to your last one, but with Rasmus, you did have the media issues with the old man, and while Tweeter might make the Jays a little overstocked at the low end of the defensive spectrum, AA definitely seems like the type of guy who will go for the value trade then deal from his strength. Also, as a reliever, Janssen is by definition replaceable.

Yeah... middle relievers aren't worth twenty-three y.o. OFs who are already league-average and still have upside. Regardless, I picked Janssen in allusion to both the Jays stealing Rasmus for Scrabble and Dotel and the Marlins giving up on Maybin for a couple relievers whose names I don't even remember.

Hope nobody gets me wrong here - Morrison fits AA's MO to a T - young, cheap, five tool core-type player...and Gator is totally right - if Morrison toed the company line he'd thrive and excel here (did you hear Travis Snider, Thames, or Mike McCoy bitching about being optioned?) - but I just don't see room for him here (there's too many outfielders here as it is)......and by the way Janssen is now the only truly consistent guy in the whole bullpen....do you give that up for Morrison?
Not only will I not stop calling him that, but will refer you to the tune "Tweeter and the Monkey Man" by The Traveling Wilburys, to which it, along with my description of Morrison as a "Signifying Monkey," elliptically allude. But of course like all my constructs, this is a multi-layered metaphor, invoking as it does the way local Espanglish pronunciation in Macondo dilates the short stem vowels "i" and "e" into "-ee" (as in Feesh), the idiotic term "tweet" which is what Twitter itself elected to call its stupidly and arbitrarily truncated message units, and by inference the entire mythos of the Signifying Monkey and his nearly ill-fated taunting of a very pissed off lion. No doubt that as he sulks in the bar car of the Sunset Limited to New Orleans, Tweeter is muttering to himself, like that very monkey, "but you never gonna stop me signifyin'."

"This is ridiculous. The guy has under-performed all year & deserved a demotion" Under performed all year? An OPS of .791 is far above league average of about .720, 17 homers = 2nd on Marlins 60 RBI = 3rd. Is Mike Cameron really the better outfielder if you are trying to win games? Or if not Cameron, then who, exactly, on that organization is better? He was angry and blew off a PR event. Bad move. Couldn't they bench him for a few days instead of sending him down? Seems like killing a fly with a sledgehammer. Of course, I'm a Cub fan and been dealing with Zambrano for the last 5 years, so this seems pretty tame.

Who cares? Almost anybody can file a grievance anytime they want for whatever reason. Doesn't mean that "Tweeter" will win this(love the knickname and I am borrowing it from OG). He is just showing his immaturity. He needs to shut up, take it like the very young man that he is, and learn from it. Something tells me we are getting dangerously close to having a Colby Rasmus situation in Florida, except instead of daddy, it's Twitter that is in "LoMo's" ear.

This is ridiculous. The guy has under-performed all year & deserved a demotion. Is this what the league has come to? If a player is unhappy about being demoted he can file a grievance? Sorry, Logan, but it's time to grow up & realize that if you don't perform on a major league level, then you're not going to be playing for the major league club. He should take advantage of this chance & make the best of it. A lot of times when a young player is demoted, they are able to pick up the pitches better against lesser-caliber opponents, get on a hot streak & carry it into a future promotion. If the guy really doesn't like being demoted, then he should make sure his level of doesn't allow it to be an option. Even as a Mets fan, Larry Bienfest is one of the best GMs in baseball & as a player, Morrison should let him do his job. Nothing is a given in baseball & a player with only 1 year of quality production certainly isn't entitled to an everyday starting job on the big league club. I just wish Sandy Alderson would follow suit & demote some of these clowns the Mets have playing on their team. I've seen this so-called prospects for 3 consecutive years in late-season, mop-up promotions & they just aren't that good. Thole is a slap-hitting catcher who can't catch or slap; Ruben Tejada is Anderson Hernandez II; Lucas Duda is an overweight, sub-par fielder who has warning track power; and Dillon Gee is the most overrated pitcher in baseball. Not a single one of these guys would make BA's top 100 prospects, but many executives & delusional Met fans think the future is these guys. Logan Morrison is better than all of them, combined, and he has found his way to AAA. Sandy, PLEASE follow suit.

Like I said, there's a difference between something being against the rules and proving the club broke the rules. Clubs, technically speaking, are forbidden from holding players back in the minors (or sending them down to the minors) to manipulate their service time and arbitration clocks, regardless of whether or not the player still has options. Doesn't stop teams from doing it all the time, and it's impossible to prove. If J.J. Hardy couldn't win a grievance for what the Brewers did to him in '09, it can't be done. I'm not certain if the Marlins broke the rules, and I doubt Morrison could actually prove it, but just because the team did something doesn't mean it's on the up-and-up. This is the same organization that has blatantly misrepresented its financial health both to MLB and the the people of the greater Miami area I don't believe a word that comes out of that brain trust. Doesn't mean Morrison's agent and MLBPA could prove wrongdoing before an arbitrator.

Clubs, technically speaking, are forbidden from holding players back in the minors (or sending them down to the minors) to manipulate their service time and arbitration clocks, regardless of whether or not the player still has options. Doesn’t stop teams from doing it all the time, and it’s impossible to prove. If J.J. Hardy couldn’t win a grievance for what the Brewers did to him in ’09, it can’t be done. I’m not certain if the Marlins broke the rules, and I doubt Morrison could actually prove it, but just because the team did something doesn’t mean it’s on the up-and-up. This is the same organization that has blatantly misrepresented its financial health both to MLB and the the people of the greater Miami area I don’t believe a word that comes out of that brain trust. Doesn’t mean Morrison’s agent and MLBPA could prove wrongdoing before an arbitrator.

I suspect this is evidence that Morrison wants out. Badly. He clearly doesn't like the people he works for, especially after this, and at this point probably wouldn't mind being exiled to some distant metropolis where fans actually appear in the seats around him. I've agreed with the good doctor that he needs to shut up and play on numerous occasions. However, I find it hard to believe, even taking into account his natural volatility, that he's too dumb not to have gotten the message he was delivered last night.

Ergo, if he's still chirruping away like this, I gotta believe he's decided he'd rather be somewhere else. What he does seem not to realize is that if he kvetches and bellyaches his way out, he's going to land somewhere else already tagged as a troublemaker and liable re-launch his career in someone else's doghouse rather than with a clean slate.

Kevin,

Morrison doesn't have the service time to not be optioned to the minors. The Marlins know he has options and they chose to send him down. Don't you think they know what his contract would allow? They have their own baseball people/lawyers that know this.

Morrison's agent is posturing. Period. He knows damn well that this is the Marlins right to send him down.

Since when is Tweeter the "team spokesman"? If he seems like one, it's only because he's got the loudest mouth. He's on his way to becoming the Gregg Jeffries of his generation, and that is not a good thing.

But let's also keep a little perspective on this. The Feesh don't generally keep their veterans around long enough to evolve into spokesmen or team captains. Their veterans are usually over-the-hill scrapheap pickups like Mike Cameron or DeWayne Wise or even Kindly Uncle Wes who have been around long enough to understand both how peripheral they are to the team's long-term prospects and how inexpensive it would be for the team to release them if they made any waves. On this particular Feesh team this particular year, among the few guys who might qualify as leaders based on accomplishments or sentiority, Josh Johnson is on the DL and Hanley, even when not on the DL, clearly doesn't have the respect of enough of his teammates - for whatever reason - nor the emotional continence to lay claim to the role.

Ergo, Tweeter kind of falls into the role by default just by dint of the sheer volume of static he emits. This is, unfortunately, the natural outcome of the Feesh's dysfunctional corporate culture.

“We are going to, with absolute certainty, explore this and contact the union and make sure Logan’s rights are protected,’’ Wray said Sunday. “It doesn’t seem like everything adds up here.’’

Good. Explore his contract. Last time I checked, Logan Morrison has minor league options.

Another win for the players' agents and good luck contacting the player's union. Pathetic.

Exactly. This kid needs to shut his mouth both in the media and the twitter world and play baseball. If the Phillies had a guy like this, I would want them to demote him, just like the Marlins did. He has acted like a spoiled punk and this is what he gets.

That's actually not true. Teams aren't supposed to use the options to manipulate service time, for example. It's almost impossible to prove when a top prospect is held out until he won't have Super-Two status, but there was a real chance a grievance would have been filed when the Brewers demoted J.J. Hardy just long enough to delay his free agency clock a year back in '09. It's hard to prove intent, but teams aren't supposed to be capricious with sending players down once they're up.
