You missed the point, as usual.

Falcon and the Cardinals organization are applying different standards to different people, and, as usual misapplying them in the worst way you can….by holding “leaders” less responsible than others. LaRussa received no suspension from the Cardinals, there wasn’t even a public response….the organization ignored it. Indeed, based on the descriptions of the event, it seems that LaRussa was (and perhaps still does) regularly drive home drunk after having too much wine with his dinner. Shelby Miller wasn’t even arrested (that has been reported) and he is suspended “indefinitely”, putatively for under-aged drinking.

Which is the worse lapse in judgement, a 20 yr old drinking or a 62 yr old driving drunk (apparently on a regular basis)? Which sets a worse example? If you are going to apply rules and evaluate behavior, the least you can do is be consistent, the best you can do is evaluate within context and hold those that should be responsible leaders to the higher standards they purport to represent.

I’m not saying Springfield doesn’t register on the bible-thump-o-meter, just that there are plenty of places in Oklahoma, west Texas, and much of the Southeast that are at least as high on that scale and probably much higher. Until 2 years ago, a town of over 200,000 people in west Texas did not have liquor stores or allow the sale of carry out alcohol within the city limits.

It is the home of the Assembly of God church. Sure it has a University(sort of), but it is no place to get in trouble. My brother went to school there, so I am fairly familiar with the area. Plus I lived, in Washington, Mo for years and have spent plenty of time in the Springfield area, and I will stick to my guns.

What’s a joke? I think the notion that they are going to trade him for 3 lefty specialists and a utility infielder is pretty obviously a facetious statement. So, were you joking about him getting in trouble? Am I missing something? That is entirely possible as I am rather tired this evening.

Both Duncan and LaRussa have praised Miller repeatedly, so you are just dead wrong D.J.. I had heard he had a start pushed back, and am relieved to find out it was due to misbehavior, not injury. Not to excuse Miller, cause I know nothing about the altercation, but I do know this, Springfield is in the heart of red-necked, bible-thumping country, where any sin is dealt with the greatest of scrutiny. Recently, Keith Law ranked him as the #2 prospect in all of baseball.
