David Ortiz to miss a week with bursitis

Red Sox’ DH David Ortiz missed last night’s game with bursitis in his right heel.  He’s going to need to be in a boot for a few days and tells WEEI’s Alex Speier that he expects to miss no more than a week.

In other news, the last time I heard someone complaining about bursitis, I was talking with my grandpa.  Of course, this pales compared to David Wells’ gout a few years ago.

Up next: we need a ballplayer to get a good case of dropsy or something.  I think they can cure all of these things with Smeckler’s Powder.

    Gout is no laughing matter.

Hope you get well soon David! The Sox lineup won’t be the same without you.

Isn’t that a side effect of roids? Must be.

I’m trying to think of the right word for these people who keep making steroid comments about Ortiz. He has always been a straight up guy; the reason he is suspected is because his name was illegally leaked from the 2003 list; he maintains that he has never used steroids and that some over-the counter supplements he purchased in the Dominican Republic must have resulted in a positive test, which cannot be verified at this late date. Both MLB and the union confirm that this is very possible. There is no reason not to give Papi the benefit of the doubt, unless one just wants to be a jerk.

        Ah! There’s the word!

all he needs is one of those dominican milkshakes and he will be fine

Uh…bursitis is a pretty damn common injury in baseball. Kevin Slowey dealt with it in his shoulder earlier this year.
