Photo of the Day: Justin Upton at Kirk Gibson’s desk

Aug 21, 2011, 1:22 PM EDT

Courtesy of’s Steve Gilbert, here’s Diamondbacks star Justin Upton relaxing at manager Kirk Gibson’s desk (the wine looks nice, Kirk) before Sunday’s series finale against the Braves. The Diamondbacks are 2 1/2 games up in the National League West, but have suddenly dropped four straight.

Upton, 23, is batting .299/.372/.549 with 25 home runs, 77 RBI and 19 stolen bases.

“but have suddenly dropped four straight.”

Nothing sudden about it, quite predictable actually. They were facing the Phillies and the Braves in the past week, of course they are getting clobbered. A rare Halladay meltdown prevented it from being 5 straight, But Hudson will likely make it 5 today. I think Arizona may take 1 game out of the four, for a 2-5 road trip.

Are the D-Backs sooooo tight with the money that they can’t pop $150 for a decent LCD flatscreen to replace that ridiculous CRT monitor?!

      They are in Atlanta.

In these days of hundred million dollar payrolls the manager still gets an office with cement walls? That’s only one step up from a construction trailer.

      Kinda looks like a classroom.

Looks like my classroom, minus the wine…..

What?! Teachers can’t have a little mood enhancer in the class room?! Where did the good ol days go?! Ya know, when my moody algebra teacher (and head baseball coach) always had that “sweating liquor” scent to go along with his blood shot eyes. FIRED?! Nahhh.

Even construction trailers have flat panel monitors rather than the old school CRT’s. Guess Gibby is really an old school guy in all respects.

Apparently Drew realized he was so far off with the AJ/Girardi non-issue that he went with something simple that can’t be refuted: Subject A is sitting in Position B.

      *Location B

      Perhaps an edit function?

If this photo was taken in the last couple of days, then it was taken in the visiting manager’s office in Atlanta. Why should the Braves supply visiting managers with a nicely furnished office and a flat screen monitor. If they even supplied the bottle of wine, it’s probably Two Buck Chuck.
