You will probably think I am crazy, Ari…but the Red Sox aren’t a lock anymore.

They are 7 games up in the loss column on the Rays. These teams have 7 games against each other with 4 being played in Bos. The only difference in the rest of the schedule is that Boston has 3 at home vs Oakland and the Rays have 3 more at home vs Detroit. Boston also has an extra game against Baltimore while the Rays have an extra game against the Jays.

Now is it likely? No. But 7 games up in the loss with 7 still against each other means the Red Sox are not a lock anymore. Not in my book. It’s too close to call if you want to be fair about it right now.

As a Tigers fan who still sometimes wakes up screaming because of 2009′s game 163 I will tell you that the AL Central is not yet decided and won’t be until the season is over.

It’s amazing how quickly the postseason spots have been gobbled up. Just two or three weeks ago there were four competitive divisions. Now there is one (the NL West). Unless you count BOS/NYY, but the loser will still make the postseason, so it’s only for seeding, homefield advantage, and bragging rights.

You raise a good point about the Willie Hernandez tribute, but I was under the assumption that Tigers fans were flocking to Comerica to see recently acquired clutch hitter and superstar Delmon Young.
