The bearded one is on his way back.

According to Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, Giants closer Brian Wilson will attempt a light game of catch on Thursday afternoon.

If it goes well, he will be cleared for more strenuous throwing workouts by the weekend and could begin tossing bullpen sessions by early next week.

Wilson was placed on the disabled list Sunday with inflammation in his throwing elbow. The move was made retroactive to August 16, however, so the right-hander will be eligible to return before September.

Wilson, 29, has posted an effective 3.19 ERA and 52/31 K/BB ratio through 53 2/3 innings this season, converting 35-of-40 save opportunities. He should be rested and ready for the stretch run.

He has a mohawk as well? Seriously? Are there epic ninjas and celebrating serfs in that too or are they just in the beard?

They actually aren’t anywhere. His wacky acting is nothing more than a calculated performance developed and implemented by a person that obviously likes attention.

“But – he is that way because he is a genius” you argue? I say BS. Quirky eccentricity does not require props. Brian Wilson does.

You know he looks like a civil-war era relic in that picture.

How long before his public persona eclipses his ability? Wait, it’s already happened.
