Bogart Madre

I saw “Treasure of the Sierra Madre” on a big screen yesterday. Part of some western retrospective at the local quasi-art house theater. Never mind that “Madre” is more of a noir than a western. There are horses, guns and dirt in it, so that works. Either way, it was easily the best Sunday afternoon time waster in a long time.  Here’s what else happened (non-hurricane division):

OK guys, let’s try to keep this week hurricane and earthquake-free, alright?

Who wants to take odds on how many days of “steenkin’ bedges” jokes we’re going to have to put up with now?

I would like to take this moment to thank Ruben Amaro Jr. for basically saving the Northeast from a much larger disaster. The details of his heroics are chronicled here.

    Tonight’s Joe Girardi pep talk:
“Hey, fellas, how about some beans? You want some beans? We’re going through some mighty rough country tomorrow, you want some beans?”

    • Jonny 5 - Aug 29, 2011 at 8:48 AM

      • Old Gator - Aug 29, 2011 at 8:57 AM

Len, YOU weren’t even born when this movie hit the silver screen. You can’t expect a youngun’ such as Myself to know these movie lines. Can You? :P

      • yankeesfanlen - Aug 29, 2011 at 9:13 AM

Jonny, fine but it’s on TCM all the time.
Look for common threads – “beans” “rough country” “tomorrow”.

To hell with TCN. It’s part of our national lore.

      • Jonny 5 - Aug 29, 2011 at 10:04 AM

        Len,
Yeah, I knew you were eluding to this. And I’d really like to see the Yanks whip up on some beaneaters. Lee wants another shot at your guys. And I can’t blame him.

“Carlos Gonzalez is so bad he should be in detention”

Wow, an Anthrax reference? Nicely done!

    • Craig Calcaterra - Aug 29, 2011 at 10:31 AM

To be fair, Anthrax was referencing the Rodney Dangerfield movie “Easy Money” with that line, but yes, I own the “I’m the Man” EP.

Treasure of the Sierra Madre is absolutely one of the best films of all time. It’s a timeless movie where the moral of the story still rings true today. Bogart and Huston are great in this movie. Time to fire up the projector!
