How dare you Philly-guys hi-jack this BeaverMen thread. No one suffers more than they, so they should have exclusive rights to this “supra-first-world-problems” thread. They have to clear Canadian Customs and border security every time they return home. Anyone who has ever had to deal with Canadian Customs and Border Security, knows what a collection of mismatched, brain dead, holier-than-thou nerds the customs people are. Shame on you Philly Phans. Let the BeaverMen have their thread. Its not like they have their Cy Young pitcher anymore, is it?

…except that he did turn it into a Phillies discussion because he explicitly used the Phillies as an example, when “normal” fans would have referred to the fact that ALL teams have to deal with these problems. Phillie fans, more than most fan groups, can conceive of no non-Phillie examples, and phrase comments with the Phillies as the focus, not as a point of reference for the topic.

Agreed J5…especially since there will be September call-ups and we won’t have to worry about a strain on the bullpen. Plus being up 8 games in the loss column doesn’t hurt either. Simply playing .500 ball (17-16) would force the braves to go 21-8(.724) to tie for the division title. I seriously doubt either of those are happening.

I won’t disagree about the unnecessary invokation of Flanagan’s death as poor excuse to use. However, Girardi argued against back-to-back Sunday and Monday doubleheaders because his staff was stretched thin. That same reason applied for the O’s on Friday’s proposed doubleheader.

But yeah, money lost from a gate was initially the most likely reason. Interesting it is then that the Sept. 8th makeup game will be an afternoon gate, not in the evening.

Bottom line, both teams could’ve handled this situation better.

I think the tribute to Mike Flanagan was scheduled for the first day back after the Orioles returned from a 4 game series in Minneapolis and after a road trip on the west coast. Good time to have the tribute. That SHOULD factor into the decision… even if you don’t care.

I suppose they could have halfassed the tribute to Flanagan to appease the Yankees… Playing a double hitter on Friday after coming off a 11 day roadtrip was out of the question and seriously sharing the gate on “home” game in New York City is retard. Especially after the Yankees jerked them around for July 30th doublehitter.

No, Good Doctor, do not feel any guilt. You did not change this into a Phillies thread. There have been several teams in the northeast that have had to reschedule games in response to the hurricane. You made a vaid comment.

I’m getting tired of the people complaining about the amount of Phillies comments. If you don’t like it, tough. We are here on this site in abundance. Deal with it. When your team has the best record in baseball, you can then talk smack.

The subject had complete relevance to the Yankees. Pointing out that other teams are in the same, if not worse, boat is anything but irrelevant. If I were intimately familiar with the scheduling of other teams, I would have pointed that out as well. So, perhaps you should take it easy.

I also wonder why the Yankees have to go out west this late in the year? Seems a bit odd to me that an east coast team will be playing 3 at LA and 3 at SEA in mid September while Boston won’t be leaving the time zone from August 26 until the end of the season.

Did I just defend the Yankees? Bleh.

Thanks also for pointing out the wrongful use of Mike Flanagan’s suicide being used in this scenario too. The fact is that the Orioles wanted to keep another night home gate with the Yankees for the extra fans at the gate and NO OTHER REASON.

The Philly media during the weekend has been overstating the fact that the Phillies have to play 33 games in 31 days because of the hurricane. Why are they overstating? To create something to talk about, no more. 33 games in 31 days is no big deal. Grow a pair and deal with it.
