A saltwater pool is a means of producing sufficient chlorine to sanitize the water, without the need to add actual chlorine. A module is placed inline at the return of the pools pump, and within the module is an electrode, which when a small electrical charge is sent to it, causes the salt (previously added to the water) to break down and release one of its elements, chlorine. This process is, in the long run, less expensive and easier to maintain than a traditional chlorine system, particularly when you consider that once the necessary saturation of salt is achieved, it only lessens through evaporation or splashout.

Simple, huh?

I can do a step better than those two above, as I actually have a saltwater pool. In addition to what they’ve already said (easier to maintain without having to add chemicals and check pH levels all the time), the salt concentration in the water isn’t really that much anyway.

Saltwater pools are a lot cheaper over the long run than traditional chlorine pools, the salt is extremely low-level, so it’s not like seawater, and you don’t have the discomfort of chlorine stinging eyes or stinking. Also, it’s easier to maintain because you don’t constantly have to check chlorine levels and add chlorine tablets every few days. Instead, you just need to occasionally dump in some salt.

Diamond-studded inflatable rafts tend to sink in regular pools, but saltwater is more buoyant and can support the gem-encrusted rafts. Also, fuck poor people.

My rich aunt and uncle have a saltwater pool, it’s a lot easier to keep clean and less expensive and difficult to maintain than freshwater with clorine.

My neighbors across the street have a saltwater pool. I’ve been told its easier to take care of than a regular pool and that’s the attraction to them.
