I'm familiar; I basically said that because I'm not sure Craig is (he called Wilson the "Maginot Line," not I.

All the French accomplished with the Maginot Line was to funnel the German army through the "Low Countries" - Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg (which were neutral countries). This was definitely not a good time to be in Belgium, the Netherlands, or Luxembourg.

Craig's allusion to the Maginot line seemed to be that Jack Wilson was a "line of defense" against having to use Brooks Conrad in the middle infield, costing the team defensively (see NLDS, 2010). My reference to Belgium was to point out that if Wilson is subbed in at shortstop or third base, it's still possible that Dan Uggla's erratic defense becomes more glaring, leading to a similar problem, since Uggla is the known biggest hole in the starting infield defense, just as the Ardennes forest was the Achilles' heel of the Maginot Line.

FC, I'm glad to know that there is at least one other person on here who is aware of European history. I may have to bust out an allusion to the 100 Years' War on a Yankees-Red Sox post someday, so at least I have some hope somebody will get it!

I have been ashamed to mention a Phillie or the Phillies in any thread not directly related to either of the two. Put money on it, and I dare you to try to beat me to it though... :P

I have a theory of why so many Phillies fans have ventured to HBT daily, like moths to a porch light. They need to be kicked around. Plain and simple. For generations, fans of Philly sports teams have been brutalized by the masses (rightfully so). We had to agree with the sucktitude of Philly sports. There was never a doubt. But now, now that Baseball, football, and Hockey in the city have made an about face they still need to get their abuse. Which comes aplenty here. It's all just a theory though. An abuse syndrome of sorts...
