Capacities do not include standing rooming only not-seats. Boston sells fewer tickets for day games. I used the higher night game capacity. If some company is buying unused seats, then a lot of SROs are being bought for other games.

I have heard that they sometimes sell so many Standing Room tickets, that the total ticket sales eclipses the “seating capacity” even though there are tickets for physical seats unsold.

If McCourt ever got his “hands on the Sawks” he’d be lucky to have a 7 game sell out streak.

The RS would 90+ years and counting for their first WS win, the “greatest rivalry in sports” wouldn’t be and the Nation would still be “lovable” losers. And, they probably be broke too!

I’m glad he didn’t because the current dynamic is far more interesting.

True, but considering the demand for Red Sox tickets, the capacity could be 42,000 (adding approx 5000 seats), and they’d still sell out every game. If you expanded it to 47,000, then you’re probably right. Then again, how many teams have parks with that kind of capacity? Not many.

Haven’t heard exactly that, but what I have heard discussed is that the sellouts aren’t as impressive when you consider the fact that large areas of seating get set aside for corporate partners…so something similar. Also, over the last few years, resellers have gotten their hands on an insane portion of the overall ticket pool.

That does sound bogus until you think about it – someone did buy the tickets if that were the case. Unless John Henry bought them, it would still seem to be a streak. To be honest, I miss the pre-streak years when I could afford to take my family to games at Fenway.

So yes, the Red Sox have lost a lot of money over the years because of their small ball park. They probably would have preferred to have all of that lost income instead of this streak.

I thought I read somewhere that the Red Sox sellout streak is a little bit bogus, because there have been times when the game actually didnt sell out, but at the last minute some corporation comes in and buys up the remaining tickets and gives them away, in order to keep the streak going. Like last year when it became obvious they weren’t making the playoffs.

Am I making that up or did I really see that? Anyone?

So what is the capacity at Fenway? It is easier to sell out if the seating capacity is small by major league standards.
