Giants might have had a too little to late game but it sure was fun to watch. Panda knocks 2 rocket home runs, Mad Bum strikes out 13( I think 11 were swinging) Padres strike out 15 times over all, Crawford dazzled at short with the glove and arm again (now if that kid could just learn to hit! ) and it looked like 60% of the crowd was in orange and black.

I’ve been talking about Michael Morse. Even suggested he should be “considered” for MVP. No one was paying attention.

If I said Michael Morse is way better than Ryan Howard, perhaps someone would pay attention? Hmmmm?

Bailey surrendered 3 in the 9th yesterday, another indication that all is not right with him. More telling is this year’s drop in velocity, akin to Brett Andersons’s, which finally led to his surgery. Bailey is down around 3 mph on the fastball, and is trying to throw a lot more sliders. As a result his ERA is about double what it was last year.

Milwaukee must have traded Lawrie, not to get Marcum, but to avoid the douchiness of Lawrie + Braun. The fine city of Milwaukee just isn’t capable of handling the combined douchbagedness of those two.

It’s no use talking about Ryan Howard on this board. Just enjoy the guy…that’s what I do every night. He is hobbling around the bases because he is clearly gutting out some kind of leg injury. He’s about one thing…winning a World Series. That bomb he hit last night is why I love the guy. Don’t worry about what these guys say…they don’t watch him every night like we do. They see the stat sheet, which doesn’t tell you Howard’s true worth. Check out the Anti-War article in another posting…without directly mentioning Howard, because the guy probably just couldn’t bring himself to type the words “Ryan Howard” in a positive light, he writes positively about him.

No mention of some awesome 1B play by one Ryan Howard last night? Can anyone honestly look back at his play last night and tell me with a straight face he’s a below average defensive 1B? He’s worked like crazy to shed that stigma, but everyone just ignores the last 3 seasons or so when assessing his defensive ability.

That’s like saying Bautista sucks because up until 3 years ago he was a journeyman, and his future was murky at best.

I know. When they signed him, I thought, oh Hay-soos, more cutrate veteran leadership. He continued to “labor” during the first third of the season, too – I recall watching his first game of the year back in April and getting the feeling that it was going to be a long season down here in Macondo. Not as long as it has turned out to be – if you graphed this campaign it would bear a striking resemblance to a taffy pulling contest – but, you know, longer than wide, like one of the sentences from El Otoño del Patriarcha, the Garcia Márquez novel about Scrooge McLoria and his accounting firm.

But look, he’s effectively made the transition from fifth to first starter this season, whether the Curmudgeonly Undead wishes to acknowledge that or not. Oh, and by the way, you gotta hand it to the ancient billfisher – the reaming he gave these guys a few nights ago seems to have finally made a dent in their amoebic egos.

That's the word I was looking for to describe last night's Feesh route of the Mutts - pretty. Not a word that's come up often in descriptions of my peccadillo-prone pisicids this season. They came up with men on base and actually drove a lot of them in! A thing of beauty, that. All the more beautiful for its rarity - like, oh, irridium.

I gotta tell you that i cannot stand Ol’ Senile anymore. i mean THREE times in the 7th inning he talked about how Robertson can’t be used cause he was used for two innings the day before, meanwhile he hadn’t pitched since Saturday. but if he had gone with the Jesus Christ line all would have been forgiven.

Copo, that’s pretty amazing at this point of the season. I don’t ever remember a Cy Young award being so tied up between 3 guys before. Ever. I say they saw it in 3 pcs and give to all of them. Give Hamels the felt from the bottom as runner up.

Roy Halladay: 16-5, 2.49 ERA, 1.06WHIP, 195 SO, 26 BB, 7 CG, 0 Shutouts
Cliff Lee: 16-7, 2.47 ERA, 1.03WHIP, 204 SO, 40 BB, 6 CG, 6 Shutouts
Clayton Kershaw: 17-5, 2.45 ERA, 1.02WHIP, 222 SO, 50 BB, 5 CG, 2 Shutouts

If the season ended now, with all things considered, I would give Lee the slight nod over Kershaw for the CY Young award. Lee and Kershaw are almost identical in every catagory. But, Lee has 6 shutouts. That’s what puts him over the top. Halladay would actually finish 3rd if the vote were today.

Well it wasn’t pretty but it was a win and that’s all that matters. Plus the Sox lost, that makes the Yankees win even more satisfying. Now 2.5 games ahead of the 2nd place Sox.
The 7 Yankees pitchers did what they had to do they kept the game close. Close enough for the Yankees offense to make the difference in this tight 11-10 win. That’s obviously meant to be a joke.
Anyway that game is history. The Yankees remain undefeated for the month and 33 games over .500

“Twitter feed” sounds like something you leave out for the birds.

Javy Vasquez’ run of quality starts began way back in June, when the rest of the team was nosediving like a bunch of wingless pigs. And he’s pretty much said all year that he’s planning to retire at the end of the season. Aside from which, I don’t recall any run-up to free agency while he was with the Borg; he pretty much labored all of last season. It’s just that Larry Beinfest is a man of faith – you know, like Harold Camping.
