Two things I don’t understand:

1. This was a St. Louis home game. If the Cardinals don’t like 3:15 start times, maybe they shouldn’t schedule them?
2. Thanks to Fox’s Saturday scheduling, eastern and central games always start at 4:00 or 3:00 local time. For the whole season. This is suddenly a problem now because the Cardinals are out of the race? Or is it just taboo to complain about Fox games because of the billions of dollars?

This just goes for the first comment. Not the one where he says he wants baseball to played like it was in the 50′s and 60′s….I guess meaning an baseball needs more teams changing cities, more expansion and virtually no games on television.

Hot chicks with nice racks can be distracting too. These guys get paid pretty good to play this game. Anytime you play anything outdoors you have to deal with the elements, deal with it. Quit complaining. You’re the only fan who wants to hear it.

To the best of my knowledge, this is a part of playoff baseball every year. There are always shadows creeping across the third base line during afternoon starts. Pitchers have a slight advantage while throwing from a sunny mound into the shadow for a few innings. BFD….play ball!

Josh Hamilton advised Cards batters to use one non-blue contact lens.
CB Bucknor had a better day calling balls and strikes than usual

It has nothing to do with fairness or level playing field. It has to do with the individual batter at the plate and they cannot see so good. You can’t pick up the ball and it’s difficult to hit, for both sides. It’s not ideal conditions. I don’t have a problem for the Cardinals, nor any other team, saying it. They are being honest.

Since both teams are playing under the same conditions, I don’t see what the problem is. Sure, some playing conditions favor hitters over pitchers, or vice-versa, but so what? Both teams’ hitters and both teams’ pitchers still have to play under the same conditions.

Miller Park has always had weird shadows. There are many times when the pitcher is in the sun and the batter is not, and it plays with people. There’s not much anyone can do except deal with it unless they want to keep the roof closed at all times. Even then, I think the big windows in the arch of the retractable roof would create weird shadows as well.

Exactly. Distractions can affect a player’s performance in many ways. No offense, Craig, but the “Put your big boy pants on and deal with it” thing does not apply here. And this is coming from a hardass such as myself that would like baseball to be played like it was in the 50′s and 60′s. Distractions are a big part of what results in the field for both teams in a given game.

Miller Park has similar shadow issues during day games. Braun has complained about it on a number of occasions.

I understand where they are coming from. Shadows can cause mayhem with any team, especially at the plate. It’s a major distraction. This reminds me of when Mike Schmidt would come to bat a Shea stadium. The amount of planes that would fly over the stadium always messed with Schmitty’s concentration at the plate. He would always step out of the batter’s box and let the plane pass before he stepped back in. These things do affect hitters. Just like the white rally towels that are overused so often now in the playoffs. It’s hard to pick up the ball. Players have said so.
