Absolutely correct about wins not telling the whole story. Fister is a perfect example.

You’re right. I can appreciate a dude getting a W in 10 or 11 or 12 straight starts–that doesn’t happen by accident, nor does it happen to crummy pitchers–and still understand that win totals don’t tell the whole story.

Wins are a silly stat, as has been covered, but for reasons such as those Joe Posnanski mentioned this week, they can still be fun. This isn’t the highest quality of win for Verlander, but with the way he’s been pitching this year, I’d say he’s earned a couple cheap ones.

Wow!! The Tigers are going to be a tough out in the playoffs because they have Verlander. I wouldn’t want to play them. For everyone else, it’s just a crap shoot
