Mike Stanton is back in the Marlins’ lineup tonight, playing for the first time since injuring his hamstring Saturday.

Prior to the injury Stanton had played in 234 of the Marlins’ 245 games since being called up from the minors in the middle of last season, hitting .260 with 54 homers and a .869 OPS.

That includes 32 homers in 134 games this season, which ranks third in the NL behind only Albert Pujols with 34 and Dan Uggla with 33.

He did not last very long. He had to leave the game in the third inning.

I hate to say it, but they ought to shut the Iron Giant down for the season. It really doesn’t matter much if he isn’t there to draw fans on the road, and the way they’re playing in general, at this point it might be better if they played the rest of their home games in private. Less pressure on the Palookaville callups to show what they can do in a big, temporary stadium.
