Must-Click Link: Vin Scully talks about his greatest calls

I don’t subscribe to GQ — I live the lifestyle baby — but there’s a good article in the October issue, also available here online.  It’s a conversation with Vin Scully and in it he details the circumstances surrounding some of his biggest calls in the game.

I’m sure most if not all of these calls — ranging from Bobby Thomson through Kirk Gibson — have been discussed in other places or by Vin himself on the air. But it’s nice having them together. The stuff about his friendship with Ralph Branca and Branca’s wife just kills ya.

Basically, it’s a lot of Vin being Vin, and that’s a good thing.

I read that article, and I can clearly hear Vin talking to me in my head. He’s absolutely incredible.

Nobody better than Vin. Nobody, not even ‘cepts, can argue with that.

I could listen to Scully calling the Buckner bungle over and over all day. What an inning.

I remember as a teenage 49er fan, Vin Scully (with Hank Stram) calling 1981 NFC Championship Game and “The Catch”. As I Giant fan I’m predisposed to dislike the Dodgers so in my opinion Vin Scully is the only redeeming quality of the organization. He’s a gem.
