In addition to bursitis, Kevin Youkilis has a hernia too

Sep 10, 2011, 9:29 AM EDT

Kevin Youkilis

In addition to Kevin Youkilis‘ hip bursitis, it turns out that the Red Sox’ third baseman also has a hernia. That according to Pete Abraham and Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

The hernia will require surgery, but Youkilis is going to wait until the offseason for that. It’s probably not doing wonderful things for his nibleness, power, flexability and mood, however.

Youkilis received an injection for his hip bursitis yesterday and could rejoin the Red Sox as soon as today.  Whether he’s going to be effective or not is an open question. He has certainly struggled lately.

I woke up this morning, saw all these posts from Craig, then momentarily worried that it was Friday and I was an hour late for work.

The Red Sox are in serious trouble. As I have been saying for a month, the Sox are not in the playoffs just yet. The Rays are 5.5 back with 6 against the Red Sox, so in essence, they control their own destiny. They are hot, they are young, and they are hungry. The Sox are beat up. They have Lester and that’s it right now. With Beckett hurt, they are in serious trouble.

The only advantage the Red Sox have is that they have 7 against the Orioles while the Rays have 7 against the Yankees. But you know what? If the Yankees can win their other games, they won’t have to win those Rays games with the division wrapped up and it becomes a different finish to the season. The Red Sox BETTER win one of the next two games…or they are in serious trouble.

I suppose this hernia is somehow the fault of the Red Sox medical staff, too.

The hernia might well be someone else’s fault, for all we know. But that face of his is squarely the responsibility of his sperm and egg donors.

With all of the injuries youk has sustained over the years you really have to think that Ortiz may be done, as youk seems to have to be the DH now.

Ps autocorrect wants youkilis to be you’ll is

The hernia is probably from Youkilis trying so hard to perfect the fruitiest batting-stance in the history of baseball.

      Coolest stance – Rod Carew.

Nah. Not even the gayest of Red Sox first basemen of relatively recent vintage.

        Tries again

To anyone who doesn’t think that pro baseball doesn’t have their share of tough dudes . . . see: “Youkilis, Kevin”.

Man the Red Sox have been plauged with injuries the last two seasons.

Youk has to be one tough guy to play through all that pain. I give him a lot of credit for it. Not sure if it is the smart thing for the team though.
