ibanez is not better then average in the field, he makes diving plays or whatever because he can’t get to the balls without having to do that. I’m using my eyes and the stats back up what my eyes are seeing. brown will be competing with mayberry for left field next year in spring training. Brown is only 24 and mayberry is 27, the phillies will give brown every chance he needs. brown’s july he hit .296/.398/.366 so the power is not there at all but he also had the hamate injury in spring training and sometimes it takes a while(up to a year) for the power to return.

Domonic Brown should be in the minors until he has at least 30 years old and/or the Phils are completely out of contention. They cannot afford to let this guy learn and play when they have a chance to win championships. They are much better off with washed up outfielders who are just as bad offensively and defensively.

As a 3rd outfielder on the Phils he is better then average. I’m not saying hes good but hes not terrible either. I don’t care much for or any of that crazy stats BS.

This is called “Joe Torre disease”. It’s what the Yankees suffered through those last few years with Bernie Williams (when he was below replacement and some fans think he was “treated unfairly”).

I would love to see Brown spend the ENTIRE 2012 season in triple A. He needs another full year without bouncing up and down to work on fielding and the hole in his swing. Obviously the talent is there and so is the pedigree. He is young and dumb and he needs so more seasoning. Mayberry Jr deserves a shot as the everyday left fielder and if he isn’t playing well in Spring Training/April, then make a move for a 2012 fix.

Leave Brown DOWN…and in 2013, he comes back as the Dominator…Cyberdyne Systems Model T-850.

Actually, Ibanez is worse than average. Considerably worse than average if you buy into WAR.

Brown is horrible in the outfield. I’m no scout, but Brown is years away from being anything in the bigs. Hes not a good base runner even though hes fast. Thank god for Ibanez and Mayberry having solid seasons. Ibanez isn’t great but hes better then average. His average is weak but he still has almost 20 homers, 30 doubles and just under 80 RBI. Not bad for a guy who doesn’t have 500 at bats. He and Mayberry will platoon the left field position and be fine. And right now if Ibanez doesn’t take a major pay cut I’m fine with Mayberry as my left fielder next season. Keep Brown down for at least one more season, let him work on his fielding and his baseball smarts.

Yeah, Charlie doesn’t really have a choice. I hope they stick with the straight platoon for the playoffs. Also, the phrase “John Mayberry Jr. has entered the game for defensive purposes” should be routinely heard.

Brown should not be on the postseason roster. At least Ibanez has those hot streaks—and he’s a left fielder, not a transplant. Brown has glaring holes and inconsistencies in his game, so Chuck really has no choice.

I don’t mean to pick on Ibanez, but as a Giants fan I’ve observed this pattern in which managers have no patience with their MLB-ready (but imperfect) prospects, even though those often get better when given the chance, but the same managers have worlds of patience for their declining veterans, even though those almost never get better (that’s why they’re declining). It seems the Phillies have the same disease.

My assumption is that they are hoping that he goes through one of those month long hot streaks during the playoffs. Agree with your general premise, he has been terrible this season.

Hey, when Raul Ibanez came up with the bases loaded and one out, did anyone think he would come through? Even with a sac fly? Be honest. (He struck out.) But thank goodness he’ll be joining the team in the playoffs!
