Wrong!

-Buying a $40 ticket and selling it for $400 at the event site is scalping and it’s illegal.

- Buying a $40 ticket and selling it for $400 on Stubhub is perfectly legal.

Scalping laws are terribly outdated. Why it’s perfectly okay to do the exact same thing online that is illegal to do in person is beyond me. Sites like Stubhub vastly encourage scalping because it’s much easier to just sell online instead of going somewhere in person to sell. MLB’s team and Ticketmaster don’t care because they’re making the sale anyway. You, the consumer are just forced to pay a markup fee because a middle-man realizes there is more money in it. It pisses me off to no end. I have no issue with re-selling a ticket at face value or maybe even at a slight profit, but that is often no the case with these sites.

…And yes, this rant mostly has to due with me being very bitter about paying $150 a piece for Descendents tickets.

got a source for that 80,000 figure or are you stating your opinion disguised as a fact? You didn’t even need to be on the teams’ mailing list – the mlb.com site for the Brewers has a link on the front page.

Also, you aren’t figuring that some individuals will sign up with more than one email account, such as using their own and their significant other’s email in two separate entries. This would double count that individual.

No they don’t. About 80,000 want to attend the games, the rest just want to profit off of scalping. All you mailing need to do is be on teams’ mailing lists and they send you an email to register “to win” the opp to buy. Then through the beauty of StubHub, you sit back like Craig, tap your pipe, and watch the dollars roll in….
