Nah, I'm with 'rev on Tabler & Martinez. They funny. Make me laugh, long time. They talk a lot of smack about how awful they were as ballplayers and compare their awfulness to the actual current players. Never a dull moment with them. Only knock is Marinez's nasal whine. That can be hard to listen to. As for the pen, Mark, I think we basically arrive the same place but different routes. I too want Morrow to be better and he can be; add/polish that change up. And; Oy Vey, rebuild that bullpen Alex Anthopolous.

Actually I was out at an auction and bought a limited edition print made by a Sioux lady. I rarely drink Labatts Blue. I prefer Alexander Keiths, Creemore Springs, red wine and ice wine. The Jays do need a closer and I suspect that someone on the roster might emerge as a decent closer. A first baseman like Votto would be nice as well as a starting pitcher. The Jays do have a surplus of left handed hitters who could be traded. They also have a surplus of pitching prospects.

Gonna have to disagree here Curr. Jays need help in the rotation, offense, and bullpen in that order. Carreno, Janssen, FF, Camp & Perez is a decent pen. But nobody in the rotation is reliable outside of Romero - Morrow included in the unreliable group. More quality innings by the rotation = less by the bullpen. 2 birds with one stone, and all that jazz. I love Mcgowan, and think he's legit - but you can't rely on him to stay healthy for a full season.

A bat who can back up Jose would be good, especially at 1B, LF, and/or DH.

Oh, and dailyrev? Tabler/Martinez are horrible. Listen to the radio crew on 590, and you'll appreciate both how good they are, and how god awful buck and tabler are.

I've been watching them most of the season (often simply because their broadcasters, Martinez and Tabler, are so amazingly refreshing to listen to compared to most other TV voices), and would agree with the above. I'm not Canadian and know nothing about what kind of cash the Rogers clan would have to toss at Prince, but a LH power bat behind JB would be helpful, and neither Thames, promising as he appears, or Lind appear to fit the bill.

The bullpen doesn't impress me much at all; I think it really needs to be rebuilt. Kids like Alvarez and Morrow will need both long and short relief help regularly, especially playing in that division they're in. Look at what's happened to the Sawx late in the season and you see the crucial importance of a deep pen in the East. So the pen is really job #1 for the hot stove J's.

They've got obvious strengths: JB, of course. And a run-producing rookie catcher whose defense has improved over the season. A 3bman who is a future AS (the subject of this post). Johnson could be an OK starting 2bman. And Farrell, a guy who has quietly become one of the best managers in beisbol. Question marks: do they commit to Encarnacion and Rasmus?

One last point: can't they get rid of that nightmare turf on their field? That would really mean something in terms of attracting better players.

Short of begging the Cyberdyne computer to make another Halladay cyborg, you mean? Well, it's the bullpen, mostly. The Jays tend to score a lot of runs, but can't save a game more than about 55% of the time. To be competitive in the AL East they need to get that up to about 75, 80%, maybe? Around what the Yankees do would be nice. So long relief and a set-up guy & closer. Maybe Drabek to Heath Bell? That would be su-weeeeet!
Then 1 more starting pitcher would be really nice; Romero is a stud. Morrow needs to improve his change-up (since it's not a 'sexy' pitch and he can throw 97, 98 mph, he just tries to muscle it past guys rather than fool them. He's gotta go with a Moyer-like approach to get the job done and save the gas for when he has them staying back on his breaking stuff). McGowan looks like the guy he used to be; some seasoning up and a bit more "dead-fish" on his change and he's a no-hitter style pitcher. The kid from AA, Alvarez, is pretty damn good for 6 innings. He also needs to polish up that change and stop showing all his pitches off so he can get to the 7th or 8th. Hes's too predictable right now. Best thing about the starting rotation is that it's not like they need more gas. Just the opposite. A good change up makes a 95mph FB look like laser beam. Brett Cecil could probably be the Joe Blanton of this group, but he's not fat enough. Need a 5th guy in that rotation who's good for about 10, 12 wins.

Last thing they really need; a big bat behind Buatista. I think Fielder would be perfect. Its just too easy pitching around JB and striking out Lind, E2 etc.

To sum up: a closer, a 5th starter, and Prince Fielder. That should just about seal the deal.
