Denard Span rear-ends teammate driving to airport, re-triggers concussion symptoms

Denard Span rejoined the Twins’ lineup Wednesday after missing most of the past four months with a concussion, but he didn’t play in yesterday’s game and Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports that he re-triggered some of the post-concussion symptoms by rear-ending teammate Danny Valencia while driving to the airport.

Seriously:

Span was following Valencia from Target Field to airport and ran into his car in stop and go traffic. Valencia’s fiance was driving. Span and Valencia were able to joke about the accident, but both are dealing with whiplash and headaches.

The story would be pretty funny if Span’s health status and the Twins’ entire season weren’t so depressing, and the fact that Justin Morneau still isn’t right physically 15 months after suffering his own concussion last year only adds to the sadness.

So what you’re saying, Aaron, is that the Twins can’t not only DRIVE in runs, but just plain can’t DRIVE. Pity, the Universe misses them in the ALDS.
Sorry, not being mean, just a perfect opening for snark.

Just looked up “snakebit” in the dictionary and found the def: “Twins 2011.” These guys don’t need a team trainer as much as they need an exorcist.

      Sacrifice a bucket of KFC?

No, Blanton pitches for the Phillies.

We sacrifice walleye on a stick.

The light rail goes directly from Target Field to the airport. Another reason to take public transportation.

Or carpool, its not like they weren’t going to the same place.

Yeah, but with the Twins luck the train would have rear ended another train.

So, would this add to their number of concussions in the last 15 months?

Gardenhire will find a way to blame Valencia for this.

I’d say he’d find a way to blame Trevor Plouffe, probably through some “butterfly effect” argument.

      It’s Theo Epstein’s fault.

It is what it is. Maybe it’s just society.
