He left as a result of disagreements about the restructuring of the organization. The Cardinal farm system was crap for about a decade, producing pretty much nothing aside from Pujols (blind squirrel finding a nut). Ownership decided to take draft and player development oversight away from Jocketty and put Jeff Lunhow in charge of that area. Of course, this both pissed of Jocketty and has led to a much improved farm system that is just now starting to see the fruits of those investments (at least, the fruits they haven't traded away for veteran help).

There have been subsequent power struggles within the organization, but those have had nothing to do with Jocketty; rather, the occurred because when he was fired there was competition for the owner's ear, which before was Jocketty's.

No. I don't miss him. He refused to change with the times and was using an out-dated model that hampers competitive ability in the new economic structure of baseball. He pretty much knows one way to build a team, and if you don't have a large payroll, his typical approach isn't successful. IMO, he is getting credit for the Cinci players catching lightning in a bottle in 2010, even though he had little to do with that roster composition. If I was a Red's fan, I would not be happy at all about the handling of the Alonso and Chapman situations so far....as a Cardinal fan, I am perfectly content with how those things have worked out.
