The secret to the Cardinals’ surge? Santana.

Sep 26, 2011, 3:01 PM EDT

Santana

No, not Ervin or Johan or Rafael. Carlos. And no, not the catcher. The guitar player.

You’ll recall that Tony La Russa rocked out with Santana back in early September? Well, as Derrick Goold notes, the Cards are 13-4 since then. And it’s not just coincidence! Santana gave La Russa a lucky charm in the form of some feathered necklace thing, and that has to be doing it.

Why not? The only think I think to be more likely is that Fredi Gonzalez went to a Danzig show around the same time and got a bad luck charm of some sort, leading the Braves’ skid.

Which, to be honest, would make this all much easier for me to accept.

I never really understood the hype behind Santana until I went to the Museum at Bethel Woods (where Woodstock happened), and saw old footage of a 21 year old Santana melting peoples’ faces at the show.

Of course, it also helped that Santana’s drummer was 19 and his drum solo on “Soul Sacrifice” (YouTube-able) one of the best parts of the whole festival. What a set those guys had.

Terry Francona had a far-less-publicized on-stage cameo with Captain and Tennille at the beginning of September. Coincidence?

Let’s hope they get off the schnide these last 3 games. A Phillies sweep would be great.

13-4? That’s Smooth. Although the Braves might disagree with me.

Craig…a Danzig reference? I believe this is the 1st time I have ever seen a Danzig reference in correlation to baseball. Either way..I don’t care how they are doing it…as long as they keep doing it. A little help by the Phillies would be nice too.

He is so good at playing guitar, it’s like he hit 27 home runs for the Cardinals.

    /reverse Carlos Santana joke
