I keep reading about how the great pitching dictates that you shouldnt move the fences in because your a pitching centered team. I don't buy that. How about looking at it as your pitching is so good that you can afford to move the fences in because great pitching works anywhere and you'd be helping your offense at the same time? Look at Citizens Bank Park. It was a launch pad in the beginning for both teams and all we heard was that no good pitchers would want to pitch there. Now all of a sudden the number of homers are down overall as compared to the first couple years . Did they move the fences back? No. Great home pitching from Halladay, Hamels, and Lee have helped to keep the ball in the park. They have a great ERA at home because they are great pitchers no matter where the fences are. It just seems to me that the teams that play in these caverns have offensive issues year in and year out and no matter how good the pitching is the team suffers for it. I don't think one great year from the giants disproves that. Make the fences fair and if your pitching is good enough it won't do anything but improve your offense while the great pitching stays the same.
