Here is why Ben Francisco makes it over Dom Brown for the guys above. When the opposing team starts a left hander, Mayberry Jr. will get the start in LF. In that scenario, who is the RH pinch hitter with pop if no Francisco? Regardless of circumstance, Ross Gload is ahead of Brown in the PH pecking order. You can disagree with the logic behind that, but it is a fact.

Exactly. Our starters should all go at LEAST 6, if not 7. Kendrick/Worley can each go 2 at least. In fact, ideally, even Stutes/Bastardo wouldn't need to pitch unless we're up by more than 3 runs or someone is getting shelled and the game is lost. Lidge and Madson have cemented themselves as the 8/9th inning guys in my opinion.

The only conceivable rationale for putting Herndon on the roster is if the Phillies were planning on throwing a couple of games. Even Blanton doesn't make sense. If either of those guys gets in a game, it's already lost.

I agree that Blanton is pitching himself into the post-season. Bastardo is still in by virtue of the fact that he's left-handed and the possibility that he will recover his mojo in time for the playoffs. I hope he's able to correct whatever is ailing him, even Stutes seems to have bounced back somewhat.

For now though, we'll be living on the Ledge for the Postseason, so bring your heart pills and your most absorbent diapers boyz & galz! (And I say that with mostly amusement and appreciation for Brad... mostly)
