Marlins to announce Ozzie Guillen as their new manager this afternoon

Sep 28, 2011, 10:30 AM EDT

Chicago White Sox manager Guillen sits in the dugout against the LA Angels during MLB American League baseball game in Anaheim

That was fast.

Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins are going to announce Ozzie Guillen as their new manager today at 1PM.  I presume that he may have something colorful to say during the press conference. Just a hunch.

I imagine no one cares, but it would have been nice for the Marlins to wait a day. Give Jack McKeon a nice sendoff after his final game as a manager after a long and pretty spiffy career.  But hey, it’s the Marlins. They tend not to handle those kinds of optics very well.

      Gently?

      • Old Gator - Sep 28, 2011 at 12:27 PM

Macondo does not believe in tears.

I am curious to see how Ozzie’s public personal is received by the Marlins owner and son-in-law…each of whom seem to be difficult personalities and each of whom seem to know much less about baseball than they like to think they do. Will Ozzie shut it because they tell him to? That doesn’t seem likely.

If ONLY you had an … edit function… tsk, tsk.

    • Old Gator - Sep 28, 2011 at 12:26 PM

No, it doesn’t seem likely at all. It is my last best hope that Slobbering Ozzie and the Chihuahua will already have begun clawing each other’s eyes out by the time spring camps open in February.

These Fish Fans say hello to my little friend with the news of Ozzie coming to Fish Town. http://deadspin.com/5843457

Umm… you may wish to tell folks it’s NSFW. Granted the site itself warns you and the video doesn’t actually run unless you click on it… but…

Can anyone reach Logan Morrison for comment?

This whole situation has lacked some tact, if you ask me. We’re talking about very well-off men here, working in a very rich industry, and these dudes couldn’t wait 4 days until the season was over before they start playing musical chairs? Lesson learned: If you know Kenny Williams or Jeff Loria, don’t trust them with a secret.

Oh my GAWD.. It’s going to be a total Tweet-fest in FLA. Unless there has been a prearranged agreement?

So. It has begun. What can we expect from Oz-Fest: The Marlins Experiment? How bout a few fans in the stands? That’d be nice. I’m tired of catching that team playing to the concessions staff and the rats. Maybe Ozzie’s true talent will be to pit bums in seats. A shiny new stadium to play in and shiny new manager to encourage that play. Perhaps things are looking up for the Feesh at last?

“it would have been nice for the Marlins to wait a day.”

Yeah, but MLB doesn’t want teams to make major announcements during the playoffs. Selig’s fault all the way.

OK, FC, here it is: WARNING!!! My above post has a link to deadspin. It features graphic adult content. If you are easily offended, do not look at this video. If there was an edit function I could have put this in the post.

A handjob…an apt metaphor for the Marlins experience…

  11. Old Gator - Sep 28, 2011 at 12:25 PM

Couldn’t they have waited until December 7th?

They’ll probably announce the fat greasy clown’s ascendancy with much fanfare tonight. Probably have his cretinous spawn beside him, too. If I have to be the only one in the stands who boos, so be it.

    • hermitfool - Sep 28, 2011 at 1:41 PM

Loud booing is sometimes the only appropriate response.

      • marinersnate - Sep 28, 2011 at 2:24 PM

OG would never boo loudly. He is far too polite for that….

The real winners here are the Miami area sports reporters, talk show hosts and bloggers…no more worries about filling dead air…
