When the Rays got down big early, I was resigned. 90 wins is more than even I had predicted for the Rays, so I felt okay if they came up short at that point.–figuring it just wasn’t meant to be, y’know? Then they came back, and I got greedy and really wanted the win. Then the Yanks had men on 1st and 3rd with none on in the 12th, and my heart was in my throat. Then they Rays got out of the jam. Then Longoria ended it with a homer just inside the left field pole. Incredible.

Meanwhile, in Baltimore, Papelbon got the ball in the 9th and looked great–at first. He mowed down the 1st two on Ks but then came 2B, 2B, 1B and suddenly they’ve lost 4-3! Longoria’s HR came just after news of that got to the Trop, and the Rays are in the playoffs–no tiebreaker needed!
