You mean like what you’re doing? I simply dispute your assertion that the Cardinals are any more difficult to defeat than Milwaukee or Arizona because of regular season records. I would point to recent struggles by your SP that may indicate these pitchers are running out of gas. Or they may turn it up a notch in October, we’ll see.

Spud, I don’t put much stock into regular season series, especially when it’s just two of them for a total of 6 or 7 games. As you said, anything can happen. That St. Louis BP is a powderkeg waiting to burst at any moment. A more competent team would have blown Rep out of the water after walking the bases loaded with no outs last night.

A Note of Thanks.

To the Cardinal and Rays players and management. No matter what happens in the next few days, or preferably weeks I just want to say “Thanks for the Memories of 2011″. Both teams were counted out numerous times by numerous “experts”. You have brought me so much joy for these past 8 months or so, from Jupiter and Port Charlotte, where you began to convince me a play-off spot was possible to the Septembers to Remember and the charge from behind, what a glorious campaign it has been.

Regardless of the outcome tonight and beyond, I am proud to be a fan. With hurdles and obstacles most teams could never overcome, your collective grit and determination cannot be overstated. Good Luck, you deserve it. May the force be with you. Thanks.

Sorry PL, but the fans can believe their team is invincible, but the players should know better. This is a team that lost 7 out of 10 to St. Louis, playing 7 of those games at home. A tie and a Cardinal win on Thursday might seem like the best scenario, but then a split in Philly with Garcia and Westbrook, leaves St. Louis coming home with Carpenter and Lohse, and just maybe no return to Philly. I am not predicting anything, no doubt the Pheelies are in the driver’s seat, but in a short series, a few opportunistic bounces can mean elimination, particularly if your players enter the series overconfident.

As Tony LaRussa says, any team is scary once the playoffs begin.

Did you see how that D-backs/Dodgers game ended last night after that Dodgers reliever forgot to cover the bag at first with two outs in the bottom of the 10th? Not to mention Charlie Manuel and the Phils have some franchise records to break tonight. Respect the Game.

I agree, this whole “I prefer if the Phillies play-” is a non-issue. The Phillies either are a great baseball team or they are not, they should be able to beat whoever comes knocking on their doorstep with that Vaunted rotation. If anything Arizona and Milwaukee should be scrambling to avoid the Phillies in the NLDS and hoping for a St. Louis victory and a Braves Loss.

If memory serves, they’be ruled out Hanson but haven’t ruled out Jurrjens. Could be wrong about that, though.

Really, the Cardinals 1-4 starters are pretty interchangeable, quality-wise.

There’s not much to pick from between Carpenter, Lohse, Garcia and Edwin Jackson.

If you go by ERA+ they’re all between 101 and 107, with Carpenter being the “worst.”

Jake Westbrook, despite a couple “where’d those come from?” gems, has had a pretty rough year.

That would certainly be in the Phillies best interest. Personally, I am hoping you guys go ahead and finish off the sweep (and set a new franchise wins record while doing so) and we win the series tonight in Houston (AP going 3-4 with a couple of ribbies to extend his record of .300 AVG/30 HR/100 RBI would be a bonus). Then…both teams get a little rest and start fresh. That will make for far more enjoyable baseball. No? But you are dead on…with your guys’ rotation it shouldn’t matter (short series or not). 7 games, 1 game, 12 games, etc.. You shouldn’t be worried about anyone with that rotation.

Good luck bravos, i honestly couldnt ask for much more from a regular season game. It has felt like the playoffs for me for the last two weeks, no hard feelings from me for the cards either this has been an amazing run to the playoffs. In fact it is probably the third best for me or better, the giants getting edged by a game and not making the playoffs was both fun and hurt as i am also a giants fan as well as braves, the worst to first team, and now this.

Yes, the best thing for the Phillies is that they remain tied, then the Cardinals win tomorrow and have to play on short rest without their #1 or #2 starters. But realistically, with doc, lee, cole, Roy, there should be no way in Hell they lose a short series to anyone on the NL.

Remember, the Cards will use Carpenter tonight and if they have to go to game 163 they will use Lohse. That’s two Phillies killers who wouldn’t be available for Saturday/Sunday. If they would start Carpenter over the weekend it would be on short rest. Hope for a tie between the two clubs after tonight.
