Yeah, maybe when Montero becomes a more solid and disciplined hitter, who hits for high average, has a chance of going first to third on a single, and who never grounds into doubleplays to kill rallies- like Posada, then he’ll deserve to play. This decision should be tied to Girardi’s future with the team. If Posada goes like 1 for 12 with 3 DPs in the series and the Yanks lose, Girardi should be fired.

Good point, I’m afraid Posada will take a lot of called third strikes off of Verlander. His bat isn’t very quick and Verlander can bring it, hence called or swinging third strikes. Jorge, please prove me wrong, this is your last big show.

While Montero has put up solid number in his debut he is not that great a hitter. Sure he has the raw power numbers but in AAA that was all he was. A masher. He is an all or nothing player and for now going with Posada is probably the wise choice.

do the yanks really think posada can catch up to a verlander fastball? experience is important but montero been flat out better even if it’s a small sample. i love my yanks but what irks me about them is they give in too much to the older players. their is always someone who comes out of the playoffs doing well that no one expected and i think that could of been montero if he was a starter

On the other hand, Montero is a better hitter. But screw that, go with “experience”.

You know why Posada has such a great wealth of experience? Because he’s old enough to be Montero’s dad.

It makes sense inasmuch as Posada has a wealth of big game experience and presure situations. Besides, Posada knows this is his last run at the big prize, .. he’ll be ready.
