How anyone can dismiss Michael Young (Rangers) is a mystery. He is the only player who has had to play four different infield positions this season, plus DH. He finished with 212 hits and a .338 average, impressive OBP, and has been steadily consistent since Game 1. A lot of players have “come on” as the season progressed, but Young started “on” and stayed that way all year.

Of course Ellsbury is only in the top three in one of these categories. What I don’t get is why Miggy isn’t getting more MVP talk. I guess he’s not a nice enough guy to win awards, just like Albert Belle back in the day.

So hypothetically if a player is 2nd in every category while a variety of other players lead either 1 or two categories that player is not to be considered for an award?

Bautista also led the AL in OPS, walks and intentional walks. He missed 13 games due to a couple of minor injuries and the birth of his child. He was the MVP. Sorry Red Sox fans, but Ellesbury did not lead the league in any important category.
