They need to show some guts and eat Lackeys contract and do it right away. He is beyond saving, if they do that it would make a loud statement and would show that management is serious about fixing the problem. If they let the money do the talking and bring that jerk off back next season then Theo needs to be the one dumped.

I do not see Terry as the problem. I would totaly understand if he is feed up. I would think ditching Lackey and Drew would go along way towards making Terry happy. Then they need to spend some money wisely, not just throw it the current available free agent but target a real pitching ace and really build starting staff that Beckett and Lester could compliment as they sure didnt seem able to rise to the challenge this last month. Are they hurt? What is up with the drs on this team? All the back and neck injuires and out of shape players (yeah you Becket).

I wouldn't be shocked if he said something like, "I'm not interested in coming back if I have to deal with John Lackey again."

Hell, I'm a fan and that's my attitude.

Someone sitting in that room wants Francona to stay. I think its Theo. Perhaps Francona really is burnt out and needs a break.

But, no one has zoned in on the comment made by Theo yesterday, "I respect ALMOST everyone in that clubhouse".

I think Theo is viewing this off-season and next season as the ultimate challenge and to bring in a new manager now only makes it more difficult. Theo has one more season left on his contract. Maybe he wants to pick-up Francona's option and keep him around for one more season and if the ship isn't turned around for next season, then you bring a completely new management team.

Whereas the conventional wisdom is you can't fire the players, perhaps the Red Sox management is strategizing how to get rid some of the players that have been alluded to but not yet named.
