Last time I checked, the Yankees scored 80 more runs and allowed 54 fewer runs than the Tigers while playing in a division whose fourth-place team had a better record than the Comedy Central’s second-place team.

I’d much rather face Nova/Garcia/Burnett over Fister/Scherzer/Porcello. If anything this benefits the Tigers and not the Yankees. The difference between Verlander and CC isn’t very big, but the difference between Fister/Scherzer and the next best Yankee starters is fairly significant.

Seems like a wash to me. Not sure any team really gains an advantage. If anything it exposes the Yankees lack of starter talent. Penny may be a poor option but any equation that puts Burnett on the hill in the post season cannot be favorable. I am betting on the over.

Sure, when you play nearly nearly 30 of your games at home against the Twins, Royals and Indians that’s bound to happen.

And who has Fister faced? Yes he has a win against Tampa Bay and and one against Texas. The other teams?

Baltimore – .426 (Once)
Cleveland – .494 (4 times)
Kansas City – .438 (twice)
Minnesota – .389 (Once)
Oakland – .457 (Once)

During one stretch in July when Fister did face four teams in a row with a .500 or better record he went 0-4.

I live in Seattle. I’ve seen Fister put up many a losing a battle because his team could only score one run…if that.

Since my Mariners are home (again, imagine that), I’m pulling for Fister to make this trade work out well. I don’t have any stats to back up my theory that he’ll win both games, I just have more faith that the Tigers will score more runs than the Yanks and he’ll do his job.

Everybody talks about the Tigers dominance in September. Until Friday’s game started, the Tigers did not play a SINGLE GAME in September against a team with a record above .500

The Tigers are a .500 ball club outside of their own division this year. They have feasted on the Twins, Indians, and Royals. Their defense stinks. Sure Valverde has 49 saves. But his two losses came against the Yankees and Red Sox. They’re a paper team. No more.

Their only hope was to have Verlander pitch twice in this series and even then he was going to have to pitch brilliantly to win. Didn’t start off well. He threw 25 pitches in the first inning. 14 strikes and 11 balls. Not good.

Incredibly rigorous mathematical analysis Matthew performed for us all. To expand even further – If Verlander wins one game then that will be one third (or 33 per cent) of the victories the TIgers need to advance – Geez – I’m going back to bed my head’s starting to hurt from all this calculus.

Yankees also have a bunch of fly ball hitters, who ground ball pitchers have more trouble with. Pitchers do better against same-type hitters.

FISTER HAS PITCHED BETTER THAN VERLANDER IN THE 2ND HALF LOL!!!!

Fister’s last start as a Mariner was against the Yanks, he lost 4-1. Then he went to Detroit and proceeded to face:
Tex(W), Cle(L), Bal(L), and won the remainder against Cle, TB, KC, Cle, Min, Oak, KC and Cle. Yes you can only pitch against who you face, but this isn’t exactly a murderer’s row of opponents here.

Plus, Verlander pitching at CoAmerica Park with 50k screaming home fans
is virtually unbeatable.

Tigers are 0-2 vs the Yanks this year with Verlander pitching including once at Tiger’s stadium

A few more points about Fister and the Tigers:

Fister is a ground ball pitcher
and Yankee stadium kills fly ball pitchers:
this means if Fister is on, then the homer happy
Yankee stadium advantage is nullified when Fister pitches: Advantage Tigers

Yankees team BA is 50 points lower at Detroit’s CoAmerica Park

Oh, did I mention that the Detroit Tigers have one of the best home records in major league baseball?

Tigers just need 1 win at Yankee stadium with Fister,
and it is 2006 all over again,
there would be no 5th game at Yankee stadium

Apparently, you Yankees fans have not see Doug Fister pitch
after the All Star break (when he was traded from the Mariners to the Tigers)

FISTER HAS PITCHED BETTER THAN VERLANDER IN THE 2ND HALF LOL!!!!

His ERA is lower in the 2nd half, he is 8-0 with the Tigers after the trade
his pitch counts are much lower and he is a better fielder defensively.

So, be careful what you wish for.

Plus, Verlander pitching at CoAmerica Park with 50k screaming home fans
is virtually unbeatable.
Verlander had a no hitter at home and a few near miss no hitters at home.

This change in schedule could actually favor the Tigers and set up Verlander
for the 1st start in round 2 against Tampa lol!!!

I dont see how starting AJ is ever a good idea or gives the Yanks any kind of advantage. I would give Hughes\Colon a shot over AJ, hell id take Penny over AJ and Penny did throw a good game one time this year against the Yanks
