det michael, this is wrong. There is an off day between games 4 and 5 so it’s only one man pitching on short rest. I would rather have verlander on short rest and a well-rested fister than Penny or Porcello and Verlander. I know what Leyland said, and I think he is crazy. I’ll believe Verlander isn’t pitching game 4 when I see Penny or Porcello out there on the mound down 2 games to 1 with their season on the line.

How Brad Penny still has a job is beyond me, he seems to get hard every start.

You have to at least admire Brad’s enthusiasm for the game…

Unless the Tigers start both Verlander and Fister on short rest, it doesn’t do any good to start just Verlander on short rest.

Starting them both on short rest may make sense if we were talking about the World Series. It makes no sense to start doing that in the first round of the playoffs when neither pitcher is used to it. The post-season is not a sprint.

Anyway, Leyland has already said, he’s not starting Verlander on short rest.

This little tidbit is yet another reason for an edit function. It’s kind of like Jerry Meal’s blown call that gave Atlanta that game over the Pirates. Yes, I’m saying we need an edit function as badly as MLB needs expanded replay.

That’s true…but you also have to stay alive. Anything can happen. If he doesn’t start game 4, and you lose, then he never starts again. At least if you get it back to New York anything can happen.

If the Tigers are down 2-1 and they don’t start Verlander in game 4, Leyland is crazy.
