Last time I checked I hadn't exploded. I stopped watching mlb in 1994. I have not forgiven them for the strike mainly because they never said they were sorry.

I still love baseball but it's more fun to go to a minor league park or watch H.S. Baseball.

I remember back in 1972 gong to Fenway park and getting a bleachers seat for $2 and sitting there with some fellow dudes whose name I didn't know and they never knew mine and getting stoned.

fun times

that was before the fun police

Given how so many of our commentators enjoy stating what others [others include everyone including every known and unknown dog/god] are thinking allow me to help clarify the words of 1 of our commentators, one "tashkalucy" WRT his statement "America is going to rediscover Major League Baseball".

Thinking outside your usual boundaries will definitely help.

Read his statement as follows "America is going to rediscover FUCKIN' REALITY".

The SMOKE & MIRRORS, the constant BS, the neverfuckin'endin' LIES [now who was it that stated scumbag clinton's "LITTLE" lies would never cost ?] and near absolute corruption [let's erect statues to dead soldiers/human beans but never, never, ever prosecute KNOWN criminals yes even state-leading war criminals] are sucking everything out of our humanity such that in the end most of us will really, really enjoy goin' out while watching that LAST baseball game.

At least I certainly want it to end that way for me - given that while I figured out early in my life that humanity would gut itself and do a thoroughly good job [considering how we fuck everything else up so badly] in that little would remain I did not think/believe/feel that it would happen DURING MY LIFE TIME.

Not so much now and yes Mr. Pickle is not amused. Oh well actually I am 'cause hey hubris is a game we all play and enjoy.

On the day after the sox 's (?) collapse became total, official, irrevocable and part of their storied history, there was an article in the Boston Herald about the new house of John Henry, owner of the team. It's in Brookline, aka the MOST exclusive section of towne as in La-Dee-Da, and Boston is the CAPITAL of La-Dee-Da as I'm sure you all know and it's a brand new mansion erected over the remains of an OLDE mansion that the dude had to get permission to tear down and it's gonna set him back:

$10,000,000.

John Henry (the steel driving man!) owner of the red sox.

There's something funny about that.

I do like how Cliff Lee singing a five year $120 million contract with the then four time defending NL East champs is seen as some rallying victory for small market teams. He didn't go to KC for $65 million he just turned down money from the Yanks, which seems to be what this is "argument" is always based on, but he still went to best team in NL. With the NEXT highest payroll in the majors after the Yankees.

Your throwing a ton of opinion around here but little in the way if fact to back it up.

"A sea change is coming fast. Just as the Red Sox and Yankees have not dominated the post-season even ..."

You are aware that two of the last four WS were won by the Yankees or RS? That's pretty dominant.

"I sure hope Epstein goes to the Cubs, because that owner doesn’t have the deep pockets the Red Sox do."

They ain't exactly the Rays you know.

"Cano and Adrian Gonzalez are noce players. But will they impact big games dozens of times a year like a Jeter, Mariano or Manny? Sorry."

Strictly your opinion and no basis in fact. I'd point to not only Cano's hitting prowess but the fact that at 28 he's entering his prime and is very likely to shine even brighter in the next few years. Also, it's not like these guys are out there alone, they have the requisite supporting characters like Pedroia, Lester, Teixeira Granderson Elsbury and Nova.

"And once those teams start crapping out, veteran players will be avoiding those 2 cities like the plague."

If the contract is right they'll come. At the end of the day players are getting paid so they might as well get well paid.

"Cliff Lee ... turned down the Yankees last year, and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if CC ... got out of his contract and signed for less money so he and his family can go to a city that enjoys baseball, and respects the players."

It'd surprise the rest MLB and their fans. He'll likely exercise his option but he'll be back with the Yankees. Or, perhaps get more money from .. oh say the RS. He's not opting out and throwing 20 mil away because it's obvious that he's not insane!

"Now the question is…….what do ESPN and Peter Gammon do when they lose their influence and MLB no longer revolves around the Red Sox and Yankees?"

I don't know what the roots of your inferiority complex is but you should get professional help. At a minimum have an adult beverage and try to relax because you seem to be working your self up to no good end.

Wow, it just got even more funny! The Yankees didn't win last year and CC seemed to be having a great time this year with his teammates. From what I've seen of the time his kids spend around dad at the ballpark, they seem to love life with dad as a Yankee. Could you clarify what horrible calamity you predict for his wife and children that they'll then have to relay to CC, therefore causing him to not realize until this upcoming incident that he's really not happy here? Also, do you consider yourself baseball's version of Peter Schiff?

Then explain to me why for over 2 decades the longer the MLB playoffs go on, the lower the national TV ratings are, And why the longer the NFL playoffs go on, the higher the national TV ratings are.

Gotta go kids.

What I wrote is coming to pass. RIGHT NOW!

ssazz,

You sound exactly like the financial analysts that were laughing at people like Peter Schiff that showed up on TV with them in 2007 and said a banking collapse was coming.

Let's see how much CC like playing with the Yankees when they don't win. Wait till he hears the stories from his wife and kids about how the locals are treating him.

Like bankers and financial analysts, Red Sox and Yankee fans are far too arrogant, far too taken with their own bs, and have been riding the gray train for far to long to accept what's coming.

As the saying goes - "d-nile is not a river in Egypt".

Another terribly overrated GM.

The Rays could run half their team for the next 10 years on the money this guy has thrown away overpaying for pitchers that didn't work out. Every single year this guy threw away millions.

John Farrell saved Epstein and Francona who don't know much about pitching. Now, with both the Rays and Farrell-Alex Anthopoulo with the Blue Jays, the Red Sox and Yankees cannot continue to bully around the Al East by spending even more money to by replacement players when some of those they overpayed to bring in go belly up -- which is what Epstein and Cashman have been doing since they got in their jobs.

I sure hope Epstein goes to the Cubs, because that owner doesn't have the deep pockets the Red Sox do. And all of the national media that worships at his feet are going to realize that there are at least 10 GM's that are running far better front offices then him.

A sea change is coming fast. Just as the Red Sox and Yankees have not dominated the post-season even though they dominate the off-season, they're no longer going to be able to dominate the regular season as well. Jeter and Rivera don't have much longer, and there is no one great for the Yankees anymore then there has been for he Red Sox after Manny left. Cano and Adrian Gonzalez are noce players. But will they impact big games dozens of times a year like a Jeter, Mariano or Manny? Sorry.

And once those teams start crapping out, veteran players will be avoiding those 2 cities like the plague. Because Red Sox and Yankee fans are the worst of the front runners, and have always turned vile on players, managers and coaches when their teams didn't win. Look at the 180 they did the day after Nomar was traded. The Boston media and fans ripped the guy to shreds. America looked with their mouth ajar.

Two guys from Cleveland - the great Manny Rameriz and John Ferrall were what held those Red Sox championship and championship-contending teams together. You don't replace a Manny Rameriz as if MLB is fantasy baseball. He couldn't stand the fans or the environment in Boston, and he did well to get out. Cliff Lee (another ex-Indian) turned down the Yankees last year, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if CC (yet another ex-Indian) got out of his contract and signed for less money so he and his family can go to a city that enjoys baseball, and respects the players.

Now the question is.......what do ESPN and Peter Gammon do when they lose their influence and MLB no longer revolves around the Red Sox and Yankees?

Why shouldn't one exactly? What seems so unbelievable or implausible about his tweet anyway? That he's shocked? Or that unnamed executives have voiced an opinion Theo will probably be afforded option to interview with Cubs given current circumstances surrounding the Red Sox? You think it's possible he made up these opinions? For what reason, he's not reporting something from inside the Red Sox camp or breaking a story, just offering his observations from the baseball people he talks to all day for a living. I very often disagree with Sherman, but I've never known him to put forth knowingly erroneous information. What are the examples of this that cause you to be so skeptical I'm curious?
