9. Chris Carpenter, RHP 9. Cliff Lee, LHP

Matt Holliday was able to pinch-hit at the end of Saturday’s loss, but he is still being bothered by discomfort in his right middle finger. Craig is drawing yet another start in the outfield. Pujols has a sore heel but will continue playing through the pain. Theriot starts at second base in place of Skip Schumaker, who struggles against left-handed pitching.

The Phillies are using the same exact batting order that helped them to an 11-6 victory in Game 1.

Getting ready for smackdown, part 2 tonight. Just cracked open my first beer in anticipation of another victory. Charlie was wise not to mess with an offense that dropped an 11 spot on the Cards last night.

Should be a good one with Carp on the mound. Here’s to hoping Berkman goes O-fer from here on out. It’s kinda distasteful to trash fans for having fun with you. Tonight he’ll get it a little more I presume.

Yeah, Berkman is now a marked man. He should have remained quiet about it. Now the fans will give it to him much worse tonight. The good news for Berkman is that this is the last time he will have to hear it from the Philly fans, as he won’t be returning here for a game 5.

So, as I’m a displaced Phillies fan who saw more final scores than actual games since the division was clinched, can someone fill me in on when this Utley batting second business started? Pence third? Victorino fifth? My mind was blown last night. Not a complaint though, seemed to work well.

Charlie started this new lineup at the end of the season, last 4 games. Utley’s power to the gaps has diminished, so he decided to move Pence to the 3 hole. Polanco sucks because of his back problem, so he moved him down to the bottom on the lineup. Bottom line is this lineup is producing right now.

It also split up the left handers…as all 3 have struggled against left handed pitching this season. Both Pence and Victorino are really good against lefties, so if they put in a lefty to face Utley then you have to deal with Pence, in for Howard have to deal with Shane. Better balance.

That, too, Good Doctor. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
