I understand the frustration with the umpires, especially west, but the people calling for ‘change’ and ‘turnover in the ranks’ need to really back up and think about it.

We have crap because we have no other choice, Selig will always back the umpires that people consider to be the worst, because generally those feelings come from those umpires making a few ‘wrong’ calls that went against ‘their team’ . The umpires who take the brunt of the aggression are the longer-tenured guys who have been around long enough to make 3 or 4 bad calls in the midst of THOUSANDS of absolutely correct calls.

how would you feel if after you have worked at your job, after thousands of times actually REMEMBERING the cover sheet on the TPS reports, thousands of people freak out about the 3 or 4 times that you DIDN’T remember?

and i know whats coming next, those TPS reports don’t affect the 50 guys in the game or thousands of fans, but try to get the point.

Not trying to piss of the ‘real fans’ on this site, just trying to throw out a point that nobody was willing to bring out, in fear of being “the damned villain umpire lover’

Actually, umpiring in general was unacceptable this year. MLB really needs to a better job in this area. It is almost once they arrive they feel they have tenure and are bulletproof.

Joe West is absolutely horrible. Only manager in baseball who seems to be biased every single time he works one of our games. There is no need in the game for this whatsoever. The message he was given should have neen more on the lines of, do your job the way it is supposed to be done or look for employment elsewhere. Only official in professional sports who if he was attacked by a player is personally feel it would be understandable.

By the looks of West, he doesn’t HAVE a throat. Players who complain are annoying, and I wouldn’t wanna listen to it, either. But umpires who are deliberately confrontational stand to ruin the game. Torre needs to keep the pressure on umpires like West.
