BTW, Theo’s strength has been in acquiring draft picks and Player Development. He might be better off without the pressure of spending to make a splash.

I know it’s 6 and 1 half dozen of another, but the Phillies have the 2nd highest payroll.

The Cubs with any competent involved owner (don’t know if that’s what Rickett’s is gonna be) should be in the top 2-5 payroll’s.

When all is said and done, I think Theo is staying. But then, last Wednesday night I didn’t think Francona could be “fired” either.

So this one fact keeps rattling around the open space in my skull . . . Ben Cherington (not Allard Baird) sat in on all of the meetings last Thursday and Friday.

The Cubs have the highest payroll in their division. I think Theo could actually compete better with $20 million less a year but $30 million more than anyone else.

Enquiring minds want to know……

o Will “journalist” Peter Gammons mediate again to help Litle Theo and the meanie owners get along?

o How will Little Theo do when he can’t win with the 2nd highest payroll in MLB and has to settle for the 8th-10th highest?

All I know is, once Theo gets with another organization and he has to compete on a more equal financial field, Brian Cashman will be pleading with the Steinbrenners to let him stay.

Actually the first sign of trouble was 2009.

As time passes it’s becoming far more clear that while John Henry, Tom Werner and Larry Lucchino have done wonderful things for the franchise, they – especially Henry – have become distracted with other business interests.

Sorry, everyone can be as idealistic as they want about a “tough” manager and a “no-nonsense” GM enforcing common sense rules like ‘no drinking beer in the clubhouse during games’, but when it’s a pair of high-priced bloated baboons in the middle of multi-year contract as your ring leaders – then it requires that ownership lay down the law.

Sit the baboons down and explain how ownership will do everything in their power to ship them out of town to a floundering franchise – and short of that instruct the manager to let the player hang out to dry in front of the media, by themselves for every poor performance that occurs until they find a place for them or they shape up and start being the professionals that they are paid to be.

Apparently from what has been reported Henry and Werner have steered clear of doing any of that. That may be the type of management style they prefer – but it’s not necessarily the best for the type of employee they pay top dollar to.

I do? I am telling him to stick around and fix things:) I am ever so grateful for the teams he put together, but he has also made some mistakes along the way, mistakes I think are fixable(cough Lackey cough).

Theo, like an NFL QB, is going to get all the praise when we win and all the blame when we loose.

I’m saying that Red Sox fans are massively overestimating Theo’s role in the breaking, and the level of what-have-you-done-for-me-lately ingratitude is just stunning. This guy is one of the best things to happen to this team since World War One, and you all seem ready to run him out of town on a rail.

I appreciate what he did for this team, but I am also not going to live in the past and give him free passes for the rest of his tenure because of what he might have accomplished 4 years ago. Now that Francona is gone, it might be a good thing in the long run to blow things up and rebuild from within.

Epstein has been pretty good, but a lot of the current dysfunction can be put on his shoulders right now.
