Quote of the Day: Josh Hamilton on the Angels

Oct 4, 2011, 1:00 PM EDT

Kelso burn

Josh Hamilton spoke to the media a few moments ago and was asked about the success of Vlad Guerrero in a Rangers uniform last season and Mike Napoli in one in 2011:

“I think we’re going to look at who we can get from the Angels next year.”

Boom. Roasted.

(quote via a bunch of people who tweeted and retweeted it; apologies and credit to whichever reporter elicited it first)

Is Hamilton suggesting that what the Angels are to the Rangers is what the Astros are to the Phillies?

Yep. Every good team needs to restock with a high quality AAAA team…or teams as the case may be, from time to time.

Darren Oliver has been a huge pick-up from the Angels as well.

Tony Reagins had a perennial AL West winner… and gave it to Jon Daniels.

Reminds me of the Charles Barkley line from several years ago: “Isiah Thomas is building a championship-caliber team. Too bad it’s in San Antonio.”

I am sure the Angels would be willing to part with Vernon.

That would also keep the Canadian/Californian/Texan trend going.

    • proudlycanadian - Oct 4, 2011 at 1:25 PM

Vernon is from Arlington and hits well there.

The average fantasy baseball manager is better than Reagins, so maybe this will all stop now that he is gone.

Maybe if Josh Hamilton had snorted a little less cocaine in his life, I’d care a little more about what he thinks.

    • artisan3m - Oct 4, 2011 at 8:10 PM

Probably not ~ and its doubtful that it matters to Josh one way or the other if you care what he’s thinking.

Just to clarify your line of thinking, are you saying the thoughts of those who have made mistakes aren’t worth hearing? I presume that mentality has alienated you from your parents.

There has been a lot of comment about the Napoli move, and who at LAA was responsible. A couple of commenters indicated that Scioscia deserves a good portion of the blame, and I agree, but ultimately, Reagins paid the price. You simply do not let go of an offensive talent like Napoli in an era of declining offense. His offense before this season showed OPS’s of .960, .842, .784. The downward trend indicated that a change of scene-or manager-was needed, or in the LAA’s case a change in management’s approach to the player.

    Screw you Josh Hamilton

Or you could be the Nationals and be the Reds trashcan.

And Baltimore is the Land of Misfit Toys from Texas: Vlad Guerrero, Chris Davis, Tommy Hunter, Clay Rapada, Pedro Strop, Buck Showalter.

(Oakland gets Texas’ castoff pitchers: Harden and McCarthy.)
