A couple of commenters indicated that Scioscia deserves a good portion of the blame, and I agree, but ultimately, Reagins paid the price. You simply do not let go of an offensive talent like Napoli in an era of declining offense. His offense before this season showed OPS’s of .960, .842, .784. The downward trend indicated that a change of scene-or manager-was needed, or in the LAA’s case a change in management’s approach to the player.
