I’m now convinced that many of the anti-Theo commenters:

a) are not Red Sox fans.

b) are Red Sox fans who baseball consciousness began circa 2004 and thus never truly experienced the anguish, humility and general feeling of being on the dark side of destiny.

c) have ZERO comprehension of what is what like to be a Red Sox fan before Theo and The Trio.

If he’s smart he’ll stay right where he’s at, that is, if they want him. The White Sox and most other teams would probably hold him accountable for his free agent moves, where Boston didn’t, they seemed to blamed Francona, which will come back to haunt them. Boston should have let Theo walk and not have forced Francona out, which in reality is what they did.

If Epstein jumps ship at this point that would be pretty gutless.

Whether you believe that the RS merely need some tweaking or a serous overhaul the perception is that they are in disarray. Epstein leaving would only compound that notion exponentially.

I’ve never thought Epstein was nearly as good as his press but he’s suppose to be a leader of that organization. Leaving now would be the exact opposite of leadership. On the other hand, .. I’d bet he still has that gorilla suit so it should be that hard to duck out of Boston.

Personally, I wouldn’t walk away if I were Theo. But who knows maybe Lucchino has begun flexing his muscles again and Theo has had enough of the interference.

I think it was very interesting that Ben Cherington (no Allard Baird) was included in all of the season review and Francona meetings last week.

In other news, John Henry issued a series of Tweets tonight just before the NY/Det game. He exchanged a few tweets an repeated some of what the Red Sox have already stated:

Why would Theo make this move? So that he has the opportunity to go down in history as the GM who broke the two longest winless streaks in history. 86 years for the red sox and 103 years for the cubs. That is why.
