Promoting a minor league coach is exactly what they did with Ready since he was their AAA manager a couple years ago. Better hitters is a given but not what they’re saying now since what you saw the end of the year is what you get in 2012. Won’t spend on good hitters, had to overpay for Barfield and Hudson, and what hitters would really want to go there since it’s a fact its the worst hitters park and favors pitching? No, have to build better through the draft which is where they’re devoting most of the effort, but like I said above, the latter half of this year was underwhelming to say the least as far as prospects. Don’t see much different outcome next year. Keep putting the same players out there then the results are not going to change.

I was clearly joking about the fence thing. They would never let Walker bring his forklift on the plane. However, I still don’t think a hitting coach is going to be much help. Might as well save the money you’d spend on a veteran hitting coach and just promote one of your minor league guys. If Jed wants to impove the offense he should probably find some better hitters.

Exactly. K’s are not as bad for a power hitting team but when you’re as power deficient as the Padres, making contact to enable runners to move over is of utmost importance.

Don’t need to move the fences in at Petco to help the Padres hit better.. They struck out 1,300 times this year.. a whopping average of over 8 strike outs per game. Work on actually hitting the ball and things will happen.

Only way a hitting coach is going to make any difference in San Diego is if he brings a wrench and a forklift with him to move the wall closer. Of course, then we’ll need to start a search for a new pitching coach.
