How is that story any different: it’s basically “the city still has 14.5% unemployment, a 38% poverty rate and a bunch of problems but, hey, the Lions, Tigers and a nice Chrysler commercial are giving people hope.”

Yes, there are some bits in there that talk about things looking up — more headquarters moving downtown and the auto industry doing better — but those take a major back seat to “the sports teams are making everyone happy again” baloney.

I want to see stories about Detroit’s rebound in the business and news pages, separate and apart from the sports stuff.

I hate to defend Selig, but I live in Central Texas and every forecast, weather report, weather map, radar system and trick knee in the state pointed to heavy thunderstorms all day and all night. For a guy who just got his ass kicked in the media for being “unable to read a weather map” and letting Game 1 of the ALDS go ahead (weather maps btw which showed right up to gametime that a clear break in the storm was coming), is it really surprising that Selig would err on the side of going with the weather maps this time around. And now we’re gonna kick his ass for being a sissy pants? Lame.

I agree with Leyland. One of the best managers in baseball. He’s right. They could have played that game, but were trembling in their shoes to try and do it. So typical of Darth Selig.

Leyland is the type of guy that will beat you in a game and piss on your grave afterwards. I have much respect for him.
