Further extension, if he gets tossed for arguing from the dugout, can he say he was arguing as the manager, not the player, and thus remain in play at first? Or, if he argues a strike call while batting and gets tossed, can he remain as manager while replacing himself in the field?

If a starting pitcher is a player- manager, and he is having trouble in some inning and wants to replace himself, does he get to walk to the dugout and then back to the mound in order to make the pitching change?
