Man, even the Beaver wouldn’t have to ask Wally what’s so wrong about this post. It starts with enjoying the “failure” of the Sox and the Braves, but disdaining the “success” of the Cardinals and Tigers. We cannot have one without the other.

At the plate, succeeding 3 out of 10 times is a good thing. Nobody has ever gone 5 out of 10 over the long haul. Enjoy the 3, and come back stronger the next year from the 7; that is THE way of baseball (when it’s done right). Torquing the situation to stack the odds toward 1.000 will simply ruin the beauty of the game.

For every Red Sox flame-out, there must be a Tiger rising. For every Goliath, somewhere, there is a David waiting with only a measly slingshot, a small stone, and the desire to win…the little guy rarely pulls it off, yet, now, we want to bind his hands, making that virtually impossible going forward? That’s a problem.

Just sayin.

If you dont like watching playoff baseball know matter who is in then dont call yourself a baseball fan. Yea most people watch it when their team is in it but if you are a true baseball fan you will watch even if your team isnt in it. I like to watch a good baseball game so i will be watching till the end. I live in nyc and Im a yankee fan. Yea Im mad they are out of it but i still watch the games.

As much as I want to see Doc win the World Series, I am worried about the Phillies going forward due to age, free agency (Rollins), and injuries (Howard).Good luck to the Eagles. You are right about them being in a weak division. They still have a chance.

Yeah…we should pander to front runners…..because NO ONE roots for the Yankees or Red Sox or Phillies that isn’t from there….except for lame front runners (like Bryce Harper). Far more people are happy to see those teams lose…not because of the teams, but because of their obnoxious fans…like you.

You know, if I recall, this very site had an article comparing the post-season performances of A-Rod and Derek Jeter. I think D.J. wrote that one. I’m still of the position that trying to aggregate several disparate postseason years into one set of statistics when the players in question were at different ages and playing levels is not really a fair comparison. Cashman seems to think the same.

Yes! The Jays will be in the playoffs either next year or the year after. You read it here. The Fillies on the other hand have probably peaked and could go the way of the Eagles.

The postseason is not what it is supposed to be! Why fight for the best record when you can get eliminated in the first round by a team that really sucked most of the year. Look at some of the winners the last couple of years. The SF Giants! Like they were really are a good team? No way but they ad hot pitching and situational hitting down the stretch and in the postseason. St. Louis this year, got hot at the right time and beat the Phillies is a short 5 game series.
It is probably better for baseball fans from these marginal cities to get to play in the postseason but I like the old days where the team with the best record after 162 games went to the world series. This is the traditional approach that was always a winner and baseball had a world series that actually meant something and always had great ratings. Who really wants to watch 2 teams from the midwest who are only 10 games above 500 but got hot at the right time? I know the story lines and interest the last week of the season was good seeing the Red Sox and Braves crash and burn but St. Louis and Tampa Bay really didn’t deserve to be in the big show. A lot of people here are going to be pissed at me because of what I am saying, but the truth is the truth. NO ONE CARES UNLESS YOU LIVE IN St. Louis. Milwaukee, Detroit or Dallas. I bet that this is the worst rated World Series in History. Last Years World Series was like watching paint dry. This year I’d rather watch leave it to beaver reruns.

Which is why sports are great. In the Post Season it just comes down to someone making a play. And there are no statistics to predict who that will be.

Every Championship team has a bench, or marginal player that stepped up in the post-season to make it possible.

When I saw the headline, I thought that it referred to drug test.

As far as his actual comments, he is correct. Any team or player, can get hot or cold for a few games. Post season performance does not predict how well a team or player will perform in the upcoming season; but, on my team, I sure would like to have players with a history of performing well in the post season.
